i think that they will have the same type of platinum hits. if you dont want to pay full price try ebay. i have picked up a couple games for $20 cheaper then retail. i dont remember when they started the platinum hits. i dont think it was until a couple years after the xbox came out. (i could be wrong)

I'd say that given the marketing and sales stragegties we've seen in the last gen, and before, there will most certainly be reduced priced software down the road.  Way.. down the road.

I think all indications show that you'll be able to pick up major titles for less on a Platinum-type series, but I personally wouldn't hold my breath now.

Example: The Platinum Hits versions of MechAssault, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell came out Nov/Holidays 2003, some two years after the console release. MechAssult went Platinum a year after its release.  Halo didn't become a PH title until quite some time, when people finally stopped shelling out 50 bucks for it (it even got a 29.99 USD price cut before "actually" becoming a PH title). DOA3, a launch title, became a PH title in, what, late August of 2003?

Game, save money, but strike a balance. wink.gif

By the time the price goes down, there will be even better games out.

not sure the guy above got the point of the post.

anyways.. platinum hits are actually just a marketting plot to boost dropping sales. What this means for the consumer is that while a title is selling Y units per week at price X the price will remain the same. When sales drop off the price will drop, if units continue to drop then the price will continue to drop. Eventually the title will hit rock bottom and publisher will recall the units on the shelves and repackage those units under a "budget" umbrella in the hopes that the new price point (and most times a few months of relative obscurity) will once again see Y units per week being sold.

It works.

Heh.  Best Buy just dropped Madden 06 to $50 last week.  I know it's a sports game, but it's only been 2 months.

I kinda hope that companies don't keep up with the $60 pricetag once the xbox1/ps2 generation dies off.  Maybe $55 for the game and $60 for a special edition... but $10 extra bucks across 200K-400K units sold is certainly making up for lost dev costs.  I know m_hael will disagree.   laugh.gif   That said, will "platinum hits" be $30 now?

Yes this might happen, but for sure not until there are enough 360's to meet demand.  Lets worry about everyone who wants a 360 getting one first.

yeah good point about the 360 base.....I will keep my eyes out looking for it, but I may just splurge and go ahead and get the game since it seems to be one of the better ones out for the 360 right now (and I've played it on the demo disc).....I recently had a birthday and got a little money from relatives, but since I'm so much older now, not as much from as many people. anyways thanks for the help everyone I was hoping that you all would have some sort of info and you all are right that it will take awhile and depends on how sales are going, because I do remember the prices for Halo still being pretty much what they were in the beginning until after it was out for a long time........thanks folks!!
