New Off-road Game Announced
« on: January 11, 2006, 11:36:00 AM »

QUOTE
According to Gamefront, Ubisoft has announced Monster 4x4 World Circuit for the Xbox360. We can only assume by the title that this is an off-road mosnter truck game. It has been a while since we have seen one of those, we hope Ubi does it right, it could be fun. More details when we have them, stay tuned.

ack..monster trucks?

What was the name of that Dreamcast game? TNT Hardcore or something? That was cool.

If this 360 game offered buggys and other various vehicles(anything other than just monster trucks), sign me up!

TNN Motorsports HardCore Heat  wink.gif
http://www.gamefaqs....ata/199024.html

The DC also had
4-Wheel Thunder, Buggy Heat, Test Drive Off-Road 3, and 4x4 Evolution

And the Xbox had Test Drive Off-Road Wide Open, 4x4 Evo 2, and Extreme 4x4 (in europe)

Though it depends on your definition of "monster truck" ^those are all just real trucks with jacked suspensions (kind of like my own pickup  biggrin.gif )

If the new one has actual monster trucks (like Bigfoot, Gravedigger, etc) Then it will be the first title I can think of since the MS Studios windows games back in the days of Win95 (has it been 10 years already ph34r.gif )

All next gen off-road games are obsolete if they dont adopt physics engines. I'm talking halo2 warthog stuff here, not some arcade crap we've been seeing for 15 years.

Aim for the PS3 fake prerendered offroad game physicality as best you can, or dont publish at all. With 3 cores you can afford to run some physics calculations in the background.

Except the game is being made by Ubi and there's a very good chance it's going to be cross-platform... but yeah sure whatever. laugh.gif

But what I mean is more of these games where you do 200mph over dunes with massless cat-like landings and cant even flip your car over. 80s outrun with a fancy polygon shell.

Speaking of dreamcast, Vigilante 8 the second offence was one of the most next gen games in that respect. Even if it was a kind of a twisted metal copy it had pretty cool physics (remember the ski-lift dragging your car?). Even the DC has more next gen than most of the xbox1 racing titles. It's not about not being able to do stuff its about lack of vision and fear of taking risks outside "tried and tested" old school poop.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

all of that aside, which I agree with for the most part..

give me Rallisport 3, regardless of what it offers. It can be just like 1 and 2, but in HD and less jaggies, and Im a happy SOB smile.gif

I almost mentioned rallisport 1 and 2 (and rally masters on the pc) as examples of games that did almost everything right but didnt sell well enough.

Holding up the physics crown isnt easy in a world saturated by arcade racers. Forza probably didnt sell all that well and is by far the most physically accurate simulation of last gen, and its game engine would make a fabulous rally title, but people dont buy games that they cant instantly master (case in point Richard Burns Rally, the most realistic rally game to date - takes hours to even pass the driving school).

And for the record I love DICE, from pinball illusions to Battlefield 2 PC, its all good (unless EA now destroys them with corporate bs).

MS should have bought them out and make them one of their game studios. They'd now have one of the hottest PC multiplayers and more kick-ass titles like rallisport3. But noo let EA take them over. Stupid shareholders.

You have to wonder wth happened there. MS gives dice (still an independent company - huge success with bf42) the job of creating midtown maddnes 3 (one of MSs succesful inhouse franchises) and gets rallisport 1 as a bonus for xbox1 launch. Dice further gives them rallisport 2, but then MS lets them be overtaken by EA. Incredible.

Now EA has forced the creation of Dice canada (infact created it not weeks after the takeover) for cheaper labour botched sequels (BFV) and lame expansion packs (BF42:secret weapons, BF2:Special Forces) and is slowly driving it into the ground with forced releases of unfinished products and no doubt trying to make them leave sweden for cheaper expenses and taxes.

You just depressed me, thanks a lot  sad.gif

and God forbid MS buy anyone, people would be up in arms over it. I wish they would have though, we wouldnt be having this convo.

The rallisports sold quite well from what I recall, Forza could have sold better, but Im sure part 2 will make up for it.
