Are there any open source MOV players that someone could port? I have a couple movies that are .mov files. If not, could someone tell me where to find a good program to convert my mov's?

yes, some group of people are making XBMC, maybe you've heard of them :P belittling aside, XBMC does play mov files as well as avi, mpg, ogg, rm and pretty much anything else you throw at it

Actually XBMC does not fully support .mov.  At least not yet.  They will play, but it oftentimes it has problems with the sound.  You can try downloading the latest codecs.

Yeah, i've got XBMC(most recent release), but it won't play one of my MOV files (Gangs of New York). I've got the codecs that are in the readme. Are there new versions of them? GONY doesn't even start. I click it once and nothing happens, then i click it again and it freezes.

I think you can get all of the win32 codecs from MSs website.  Just drop them in with the other codecs in the mplayer file.

It seems that XBMC has a hard time playing large mov files.  I can get my to play but get no sound.  I have found that this is a common problem, even with the updated codecs.  Until someone ports a mov player or xbmc adds full support for movs we are just going to have to live without.

I think xbmc is a great project and I use it day to day, however..

.. the native mplayer for linux on xbox seems to play a lot of stuff xbmc doesn't play yet.  It's more of a pain to use but it's what I've found with experience.

It's 1.4 gb. Maybe when the next "official" release comes out they will play.

Don't hold your breathe for mov support.   Its not likely to happen any time soon.  If you have more questions about this check out the xbmc forum.  There are many topics on mov support with xbmc.
