hmm, i take it you don't really understand everything behind emulation.  the emulated games aren't slowing down because of "high resolutions" it's just the emulation code.  go look up console emulators for PC, the history of them, you'll see the same problems and time is always the factor which results in them working right.

all games? no. most, yes. how long? i'm not sure how fast they're working but if they're working fast and efficient i give it 6 months - 1 year.  i don't think we'll ever see a final version of the emulator.  but the 6 months - 1 year is for a more decent version than what we have now.

well, i think thats partially code improvments and partially the machines that are doing the emulating getting better. the 360 will get code improvments, but the hardware is what the hardware is. the question is how much improvement they will be able to make. i don't see to much need for improvement though other then more stuff on the compatibility list since all my xbox games i've tried in it have worked great.

Emulation is a very bad option but they had no choice. I still tell people to just have both units connected if you don't want problems.

QUOTE(rfmok @ Dec 20 2005, 11:03 AM) View Post

Right right.  But not everyone can do that because some people just have the 360.

Backwards compatabilty was a extra added on for people that do own xbox1 games. I don't think you can really complain if you just own a 360 and you complain you can't play games that arn't designed for a 360.

They had a choice, it was their own fault they pissed off Nvidia a couple years back.............

It was MS's choice to not just release with stock computer parts again. And I give them kudos for trying to come up with a real console design. You just have to accept it or buy a PS3 if it bothers you that much.

Not stock computer parts, I wouldnt say that. A real console design rotfl.gif Is that why ATI has talks of their new desktop GPU with 48 shaders named the R580? Is that why the tri-core CPU is nothing more than a simple tri-core PowerPC CPU. Is that why is uses GDDR3? Seems like a computer to me with computer parts.

emulation always starts out rough... if the time is spent it can achieve results where some games play even better than they did on the original hardware.

Like others have said: give it time.

Halo 2 alone has already had at least 4 profile updates since launch... and it hasn't even been out a month yet. In 6 months to a years time a lot of the bigger problems we're seeing will be a thing of the past and the compatible games list will have grown dramatically.

I remember when I had a SNES emulator for my PC... the BEST emulator available ran most games like total CRAP... now look at the SNES emulation on the Xbox, it's pretty much flawless and even some of the games that suffered from slowdowns on the SNES hardware run smooth and in HD resolutions... I'm sure the Xbox emulator on the 360 will be no different. I would imagine that progress will be made much faster on the Xbox emulator too seeing as MS has dedicated emulation people working on it full time as opposed to the homebrew emulators that people are simply doing as a hobby.

deftonesmx17 Let's not have you Hijack another Xbox360 thread into a PC discussion again. If you want to talk about BC emulation on the Xbox360 feel free but if you want to talk about PCs or how much a 360 is like a PC you can do so elsewhere (at least in the hardware forum... this is the GAME forum).

I wasnt turning it into a PC discussion. I was only correcting what someone said.

I would be happy if all the LIVE titles worked. The other games, use an Xbox... Now is the best time to get an Xbox 1 if you don't already have one. You can get them cheap, there are plenty of cheap chips that work great, and ATA Hard Drives are dirt cheap. There is no reason to not have an Xbox... If I didn't have a Xbox, I would buy that before a 360, SERIOUSLY  tongue.gif

In the long run emulation is great because you can move your games library to new hardware (next gen consoles) without embedding custom chips that provide the emulation functionality.

In addition it makes sense for MS to solve the problem with software rather than hardware because they are a software company.

Ha, please hope for us that they are better at that than programming windows biggrin.gif

Funny thing is, i play more halo 2 online then any other 360 game right now.  Why do i not just play it on my xbox?  Because i'd rather play in on my 360 in psuado 720p with 2x AA. tongue.gif
