Why Is Ea Sports Hated?
« on: December 16, 2005, 04:09:00 PM »

I recently started reading and posting to this website (very informative members  biggrin.gif  )and I have noticed that a lot of members dislike EA Sports.

From some of your comments I know that EA bought the rights to the NFL, which means that EA does not need to invest in the Madden series in quality since it has no competitors.

Another thing that I noticed is that EA has it's own servers instead of using MS's servers. Don't really know if this is true and if so don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

Other than that I don't know why it keeps coming up that EA sucks. I've been out of the loop the last three years do to finishing college and other stuff like work and family, but now I'm ready to come back strong with the 360, and would you like to get some members to elaborate on this.

Thanks,

well to be quite honest. EA was faced with a superior game aka. 2k5 from sega.
they decided instead of making a better game to compete they bought the NFL rights so they wouldnt have to compete.

Just means that they can keep making sub standard games now without concern of losing market share.

EA was hated long before the nfl incedent.

its quite complicated, but basically what started it off was the fact that EA's games had really no updates between each year. people started realising it was the same shit each year, and got upset, yet still bought into it.

Ontop of this, a blogger posted his wifes experience at EA. EA was forcing very long overtimes, borderline child labour. Paying very little wage for the forced overtime. Having unrealistic deadlines forcing employees to work overtime. In general, a forced way of working. Rather then rewarding employees to get them to work more then normal (extrinsic incentives) they basically said, get the project done or you ma'am/sir are done.

once this happened, everyone hopped on the bandwagon of EA hating.  a good reason to hate EA, but jumping on the bandwagon none the less.

so, now we have the EA hating club, whereas everything EA publishes is now shit. Come along the NFL problem. EA felt the heat, had alot of money, and took up the offer of the NFL. Now, to set the record straight, EA didnt buy out the NFL, the NFL offered a contract to EA. So the EA haters club is likely wrong with what they tell you. Either way, a stupid move none the less.

So in general, id say most the reasons people hate EA arent their own opinions, rather someone else theyre nut huggin and feel they should spread that persons opinions to the public.

Dont mind me BTW, a little bit intoxicated wink.gif

so yeah, in general why people hate EA is because:
horrible working conditions (im sure have changed by now)
the nfl liscense
the bandwagon
lack of change

since then however, EA has been pumping out innovative things in their games, which im sure the nut huggers will say isnt so innovative cause its been used already, but by whom? EA. ie: the right joysticks control. All i can say is pwnage.

Anyone play nhl 2006? hands down the best nhl game out so far smile.gif

BTW: not an EA fanboy, nor a sega sports fanboy. I just like whats best, and tbo, EA has smartened up. Even with the 06 lineup for the 360, i thought theyd be ports judging from EAs past, but clearly different games. The closest port for the 360 would have to be madden and nhl, aside from that, all games look completely different, and play much better on the 360 smile.gif

anyways, enjoy my rant. try and find the guys blog about his wife working at EA. its actually quite interesting.

anyone here work at EA or have a friend working at EA in BC? id like a cheap game or two

I would say they're hated mostly about the football incident.Everyone knew that 2K5 was slaughtering Madden.Hell it even slaughters the 360 version of Madden. But everything else sucks too.The Live sucks on 360,The players must of had some warm-up to be sweating that perfusly 1 minute into the game. The last couple of medal of honors have sucked.Everything they put out consumers buy because of the hype, the members hate EA so much to try and stop the hype machine and tell people to try out other games because they are far better,Graphics/Gameplay/Everything. EA is a bunch of flaming homosexuals.

Go to gamefaqs.com, they have a couple of roster updates there. I use them because Madden sucks IMO.

@iLLNESS, The only game EA makes that is worth the disc it is put on, is the fight night series.

Its not just the NFL either, remember they own exclusive rights to NASCAR and FIFA also. The old NASCAR Racing by papyrus still to this day walks all over the EA NASCARS and PES/WE shits on FIFA.

Ah, I bet NFL 2K5 at 720p with AA would look just as good as 360 Madden 06 laugh.gif

quick note - EA working time practises didn't get any better they simply paid people off to the tune of $20M. The class action lawsuite went away and they introduced a NEW payscale.... essentially all bad... lower grades who work for EA now work By the hour and don't get any benefits... this means they HAVE to work overtime to get the same money.

just thought I'd explain that.

I agree with that in regards to the fight night games. Im not a major fan of EA but i love the boxing games. It seems to me that they just churn out the same crap every year on each franchise with only minor changes. Fight Night rd 2 however was a great step up from its predecessor!

BTW has anyone got any decent links for Fight Night rd 3 or is there not enough info on the game yet?

Does'nt seem IRONIC how EA is producing the same game year after year with minor updates, and still manage to run up overtime on labor? What the hell are they working on!

If the employees are working like slaves you would think that they are creating something creative...I mean come on how many hours could it have taken to create the " Quarterback vision " and the " Truck Stick".

Well, in EA's defense, I would have to point out the Burnout series, and also the fact that there in't too much to improve upon in football.  It's, well, football.  Sure, grapics could have been updated quicker, or gameplay made tighter, or some other things, but they are a business.  Even before exclusive rights, ifEA had spent too much time on the Xbox versions of Madden, the only thing to improve upon from 04-06 would have been rosters and commentary.
I've only played NFL2K5 on a PS2 hooked up to a tiny-ass TV from 1984 using RF at my friend's house.  Did I mention it was on a PS2?  And it felt craptastic.  This may be because of the PS2, TV, RF cables, or the PS2.  That's my guess.  People say it's awesome.  Is it that much better than Madden?  If it is, I'll give it a rent and try it out.

If you would have played NFL 2K5 on an xbox you wouldnt even have any doubt that it is better, especially on an HDTV.
