honest or dishonest... really I see it as a tool to compare myself to my friends... All the people on my buddy list I know and I know they wouldn't artificially inflate their score by dishonest means.

Besides
I don't know if I'd consider looking at a guide cheating. I often hit up gamefaqs for the 2nd or 3rd time through a game, even if you're being told how to accomplish something you still have to DO it. Sure there are some "hidden" achievements, and some that are based purely on finding things "like metal pieces in condemned". But for the most part the achievements ARE skill or experience based...

Also if I had friends who were good enough in games to complete some of the harder challenges why would they want to help me? It'd be like trying to convince a friend who's good at a particular game at the arcade to put your initials in instead of his own... FAT CHANCE.

... uh

I can't remember where I was going with this so I'll just leave it at that  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I have to say i love it. it seems to give games more replay value and at $60 a piece that definately doesnt hurt.

I too like them. As mentioned they are great for comparing to your friends and it's great to have a goal sometime in a game after it's been beat. Makes me wanna sit there in PGR3 and beat everything in extra hard.

although before the 360 launch i thought you would be able to earn credits based on your score and achievements i still like the whole concept even after learning i cant buy stuff with any points.  i never really thought i would pay any attention to it but i take pride in my own personal profile and my reputation and gamerscore are a huge part of that.  seeing how high my friends are gives me an idea of what kind of gamer they are.  the achievement system allows people to know more about your likes when it comes to games and where your skills are.  when i was playing PGR3, one of my friends pointed out how i got a hero medal, which means that i was featured on the heros channel, and i didnt even know it  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)  but when i found that out i thought it was awsome.  i think MS reached their goal in giving us gamers a way to have a personal online experience and i commend them for that.

I like having it.  It is a good record of what you have done in a game, and you can compare that to your friends.  I guess some people will decide to abuse it for bragging rights (I'm not sure why) but that is human nature for you.

Having the achievements has already added replay value on Kameo for me.  I beat the game, but still have incentive to keep playing it based on the achievements left.  This is good because I would have felt like I wasted my cash if it was really that quick to beat.

^agreed.

I probably would never have played thru Kameo a second time in co-op had it not been for the acheivements.  I hate split screen, but there is an interest now that I know I should do it to earn gamerscore points.

It's fun to "kill" games, and the Achievements give me something to work for after I beat a game once.  Kameo's co-op points is a perfect example.
