Xbox 360 vs Xbox: Graphics Comparison
« Reply #15 on: December 02, 2005, 10:43:00 AM »

I have a 360 and forgive me, but, Im not that impressed with the launch titles so far.

I have CoD2 and Quake 4 for the PC, so I don't need those. Condemned was the only launch title I bought so far that I really enjoyed thoroughly. PGR3 is ok, but racing games do get boring. PDZ is interesting, but not all that engrossing. Kameo is way too platform-like for me. NFS:MW I have on the Xbox and it's good enough there. I'm not wild about all that distracting eye-candy/lens-flare nonsense happening on the 360 version. The rest of the EA Sports line up is boring to me. They took a big steaming crap on the NFL license IMO.

What's gonna make the 360 is what is coming around Feb-March and beyond: OBLIVION, Gears of War, Prey, Frame City Killer, Dead Rising, Halo 3, Saints Row, etc.

What we have now isn't all that great. The good games are on the way.

i havent read the article yet but i think its very fair to compare games at the same resolution.  many people claim that a lot of the 360 ports and games are nothing more then just xbox games in high res.  by showing the difference in the same resolution and the 360 games still look light years ahead just proves how much better they will look at the high resolutions they were intended to be viewed at.  the first gen of games never touch any power of any system and this is even more true with the coming next gen because the architecture is so different it will be a while before engines are being used that even take advantage of the consoles.  even if games are using multiple cores doesnt mean that its designed and optimized fore multi-core architecture and most games are still using assets and engines from the last generation (ninety nine nights uses the kingdom under fire engine but still looks amazing).  point being, it will be years before we really see what these systems can do.

I am sorry to break this to you, but Xbox graphics suck and so do 360's. For example on my PC I run the Call of Duty 2 demo on full graphics at 1280x1024 with antialaising. The Xbox 360 runs it at 1080x768 with obviously no antialaising. Furthermore, from what i can gather(from videos online) the Elder Scrolls 4 game will have realtime dynamic shadows(as in FEAR) in the PC version, but wont have them in Xbox 360. I have read the tech specs on the 360 and believe it has potential, but the low res.(compared to PC) and new games that don't take full advantage of the power have me worried. As for me I will stick with my PC and enjoy the cutting edge graphics of games like FEAR and UT2007. Check the graphics out at the Fear Home Page

By the way I am not Tomb I just guessed his name and password to post. Don't get mad at him. Refer to me as the "stupid poser" or something derogatory.

Why must people like you always compare CONSOLEs to PCs .... If everyone could afford a power PC for $2000-$3000 then they would have one

Buty a xbox 360 for $500 CAD with that much power, build me a PC for that price with that much power????? YOU CAN'T

Comparing a 360 in 480i to an Xbox in 480i is like comparing a Civic and a McLaren based on how they perform in a school zone.  Sure, the McLaren (360) will be better, but not by as much as it could be if you let it use it's whole potential (HDTV).

I will say that the one thing that bugs me is the fact that my over 1 and a half year old PC which cost me around $750 makes CoD2 and Quake 4 look better than the 360 version.  And FEAR looks better than eveything except PGR3 (which needs higher FSAA and resolution [1024x600?]) and PD0 (stunning graphics other than the unrealistic faces, but nothing liek the gem of an original). Kameo also looked fantastic, but I have no doubt my PC could handle it.

Even though you played COD2 for PC, play it for Xbox 360. This game has the best graphics that I have ever seen. The mission were you have to climb up the rocks with the rope looks awesome. I have COD2 for PC also but playing it on Xbox 360 was a whole different thing.

last time i checked most people play console games on a screen larger than 21 inches....
pc games might look amazing on a small crt compard to 360, but throw that image on a tv and see how it looks
this whole argument is alot like the stated mclaren vs civic in a school zone...the civic cost less and does the same damn thing so why spend the  extra money or a super car you will only drive on local roads?
peopel build these monster computers and spend a ton on a nice graphics card and then dont use the  full potential of the machine they waste it on their games....GAMES...GAMES! its a fucking game!!!!

Im very impressed with the xbox360.  Ive got quake 4 on my pc but i dont play it on there.  Why play a game on a 19 inch computer screen when you can play it on the 65 inch HDTV with the same quality!!  Every game looks amazing on a big HDTV and the sound is great.  Sure ive got surround sound on my computer, but its nothing like playing it on a home theatre system with bigger speakers and bigger subwoofer.  Its all a matter of personal opinion but for me, id much rather be playing games on my big screen sitting on my couch or laying on my bed rather then sitting in a computer chair.  Now they just need to make a fully compatible keyboard and mouse for the xbox360 and id be all set, since those of course are easier to use for FPS.

I am glad to see so much enthusiasm for my post, but I would like to clarify some things if I may. I have seen Xbox 360 in 1024x768 and it appeared not to have AA. I do believe Xbox 360 has a great amount of potential! I am just lamenting the fact that developers are not taking advantage of all its power. I feel it is appropriate to compare pc and xbox 360 because although an Xbox 360 may cost less, a hi-def big screen television will run between $800-$1200. Now add in the price of the console and you could buy yourself a nice gaming pc. I addition the Xbox 360 does not eliminate the need for a home pc. A decent home pc (not a budget one) will cost
$800+ and now add in the cost of buying a console not to mention a special tv on to that. This equals about $1200 once again for just a bit more investment of money you can puchase a nice gaming computer. By the way a nice gaming computer can  be purchased for $1000-$2000 not $2000-$3000. Thank you for considering by point of view.

oh...no shit? blink.gif
i figured after only 3 months with the final hardware the developers would be taking advantage of it like a drunk prom date.
noone will take full advantage of the system till at least the second gen of games if not later...
