Do Ntsc Games Work With Pal Xbox 360?
« on: November 27, 2005, 02:09:00 PM »

Ok, so I've been looking for this everywhere and yet I can't find an answer to this question. Do NTSC (games from North America) work with a PAL (Xbox 360 console made in Europe) Xbox 360 system? I'm asking this because I've looked on European sites and found that they have pre-orders going on now for the Xbox 360 and if I can get my 360 from Europe I would buy all my games which I already have from North America. I just need to know if this is possible because I don't want to get stuck with having a Xbox 360 that's not compatible with my games. Please reply to me about this because I need to know quickly so I can make my pre-order. Thanks again.  smile.gif

Actually there is no reason for "NTSC" games (or dvds) to not work on a PAL TV because they have supported 60hz PAL60 mode for 20 years now. People who bought a cheap-ass TV that doesnt can blame themselves.

Same for HDTVs, they all support both 60 and 50hz modes in Europe.

Only NTSC region TVs lack the support for 50hz so from PAL to NTSC there is a use for blocking imports since people cant use them. This was true for VHS (like bought from the UK on holiday) and for DVD where the image has to be synced to the hz it was encoded at.

Now I would guess the NTSC games are region locked because as always they'll get titles like GTA months earlier than PAL so to prevent importing on unmodded consoles they will be region locked. When the PAL version finally comes out (like with GTA:VC that took 6 months) the NTSC version is on sale for 20 bucks and the PAL version costs 60eur. It's all about the money.

Some games are region free and some isn't but they don't say if the game is region free on the box sad.gif

Mostly the NTSC version is region free

So what you are saying is if I own a PAL supported HDTV, buy a PAL version of XBOX 360, i will be able to play my region free XBOX 360 games?

If so, what are the chances of the gaming companies to start protecting them via Region codes.

Please advise.
