Bungie Confirms Halo Improvements for Xbox 360: WS 720p

Not so much good news for those w/o hdtv.  Could play on my monitor, but that's not very comfortable.  I was gonna get the 360 is they had graphics improvements.

Even with my old 480i 32" widescreen all the jaggies in Halo were really visible on it, although somewhat blurred. With old tv sets x360 might bring you a Halo that's initially rendered in 720p+AA and then interpolated in video hardware down to 480i/p. It'll still look nicer.

On old Halo (and other games with 4xsplitscreen) you had a VGA 640x480 split to four screens, QVGA 320x240 each. With 720p 4xsplit you'll have 1280x720 split to four screens, making the resolution in 640x360 each of them.

You'll have almost the same resolution for that little view in 720p Halo that you had in the single player fullscreen mode. Definitely crisp enough to see where you're going :beer:

amazing news, great to hear it confirmed

i'd like to see sony beat that, the backwards compatability on the ps2 was awful

cant wait to see the difference

They did only use a simpe texture filter, but it was 100% compatible with PS games wasn't it? 360 won't be. And I don't see companies, especially EA Sports adding hi res and/or frame rate improvements.

Well even without an HDTV set you still get AA... Which is an enormous improvment...

Not to mention Halo 1 now supports Widescreen (which it didn't before) which means that it has an even GREATER FOV then it did before. Even if you don't have a widescreen set you can play it in letterbox and get the extra benefit.

Trust me even without the resolution increase the other things they're adding to the game graphics will definitely be noticeable and a treat for the eyes.


Here's hoping this kind of improvement isn't limited to just Halo  :beer:

No it wasn't 100%... they SAID IT WAS but there was a fairly substantial list of games that didn't work properly with it. But you know it's Sony so everything they say is Gospel.

I made a conceptual screenshot of how much detail would there be in AA 720p four player mp screen on x360:

If your screen is big enough, having a quick deathmatch with four friends on one x360 and HDTV (or a projector) is now officially possible. Really nice, Bungee, really nice :beer:

Wow, if that screenshot is anything close to what it will look like I would be super happy.

Now I know what Ken Kutaragi was talking about when he said xbox 1.5, we are getting an xbox 1.5 plus an xbox 360 all in one package.

Inverts are great, it means you can seamlessly go from plane to ground firefight without changing your controllers.

If you can't handle inverts then just change your controlls.
I am from the goldeneye generation and invert is how I grew up with FPS.

The image is sized 1280x720, which is the x360's 720p resolution and it's constructed of four PC Halo screens, which are resized to half, giving them 2xAA effect. The Halo we'll see on 22th *will* be very similar to this concept screen, or then it isn't real 720p.

Watch the image on your LCD TV or projector and you'll get a pretty good idea how sharp and playable it'll really look, when Xbox's Halo in 480p/i 4xmp is completely smudged and unplayable.

Now I have the urge to put together a similar 720p HDTV sample video from four 480p video streams. Anyone know where to get crisp Halo movie clips in 640x480?

Or permanantly inverting your thumbsticks :)  Im a invert and I finally got sick of always having to switch to it cuz Im the only one I know; so I just reversed the thumbsticks and voila.  Now my friends cant use MY controller unless they switch.  Its a beautiful thing!

Here's a link on how to do it to a s-type.  Its a LE crystal controller so it looks a little different being white but its all the same :)

Inverted S-Type

Weve done the same with a 360 controller to and it will be on the 360 page.

Or just have the controlls individually set for each scenario(sp?) (ie: BF2 on PC you can set controlls for foot, vehicle, helicopter, and plane)

and i dont remember goldeneye only being invert, i cant stand invert controls and i loved goldeneye.  if i push up i was to look up damn it and it being invert does nothing but get me killed.   :P

I think the real question is, will Xbox 360 play the original wolfenstein?

Because that game rocks so hardcore, even though the graphics, physics and environment suck ass compared to next gen, I refuse to play much better games like perfect dark.

And when is Counterstrike going to work with 360??

These are the important questions people!!!
