Xbox 360's in-game MP3 playback is optional-- Posted by XanTium on November 8 23:06 EST
From eurogamer.net:

An Xbox 360 developer has shed more light on the issue of background music in games for Microsoft's next-generation console, revealing that in-game streaming of music from outside music sources such as iPod is something developers can opt not to support.

I'm sorry, so what's the point of it then? I thought "custom soundtracks" would be something that could ALWAYS be done. I mean what's the point otherwise? It'll be just like on the xbox where most games won't support it because developers are too lazy to put it in.

I'm all for game music, but I want the option to be there for once I get sick of hearing repetitive crap thats in most games.

all games should still have custom soundtracks.

notice that it says "steaming from outside sources".

that means that some companies can choose to not support the steaming of music say from an ipod, but they still have to be able to play music already stored on the 360.

at least thats what i think it means.

i think the whole point of the article is that it will give the developer the option of when to have custom soundtracks on.  if early indications are true then it would require more programming for the dev to not include custom soundtracks then to just put it in.  i agree with this move as it would ruin the work that some developers put into a game by letting the player insert his/her own music, especially games like horror games.  unlike the xbox, the majority of games will support CS, but for those moments when it will ruin the experience that the dev intends for us to go through it wont become an option.

see the bigger picture and be happy with what we get, thats what i say  tongue.gif

I can understand that if a developer spends big money on composing their own soundtrack and why they want people to listen to it, but some games work better with the original soundtrack anyways. CS is nice to have as an option for every game though.

I hope all games will still have custom soundtracks, I'd be really disapointed if they didn't.....it be nice to change in game music from time to time..

Though I can see why game developers might be mad.......why pay someone to do your games music when no one will listen to it.

THIS IS BOLLOCKS!

At E3 they said they were FORCING developers to support both personal music in game AND anti-aliasing or the game wouldnt come out on 360.

I cant belive they whimped out on this. IF I HAVE TO PUT UP WITH EAs SELECTION OF SHITTY IN GAME MUSIC AGAIN I MAY KILL!  grr.gif

Burnout would be so much better with some quality tracks sad.gif

Developers: do the right thing, we are not STUPID I dount anyone would have a Shampoo track on while blasting through Halo 3.

Last I remember Burnout 3 and Revenge were some on a short list of games that actually allows custom soundtracks.  It's right there in the profile settings.

Hello. I think M$ should @ least get the developers to put the option in anyway. DON'T Be like SONY/Nintendo. This feature alone is worth having. I mean we might go back to doing it our way again (turning down the music volume & playing our own).  It's the little things like this that makes a difference.  This is to the developers, STOP BITCHING & PUT THE CUSTOM MUSIC OPTION IN. The game will be a lot better & get more replay value.

Thank you

J Allard said that Custom soundtracks and Live aware would be in the system "on a chip level" meaning that developers dont need to do any special programming to include it in their games (like the xbox 1) and they didnt say that they were forcing devs to support CS or the game isnt coming out.  they did say that it will be supported for every game but even i didnt believe that to be true 100% of the time.  if one out of every 10 games dont use the CS feature who cares, we already know it will get far more support then it did on the first xbox.  as far as racing games, fighting games, and some shooter (mainly online shooters) i think its a safe bet that every game will support CS, but i wouldnt be surprised if halo 3, splinter cell 4, or RE5 didnt support it for the single player mode atleast which is understandable IMO.  when you put that much love and effort into a project i wouldnt want some whiney punk ruining the experience that i worked so hard to create because they wanted to listen to country during a horror moment.   tongue.gif

like i said it shouldnt be an issue so take and love what we get, it could be worse, it could not be a feature at all.
