2 More Titles From Rare?
« Reply #15 on: October 26, 2005, 12:28:00 PM »

For future reference...

Nintendo owns Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and Starfox. I believe they also own rights to Killer Instinct.

MS/Rare owns Perfect Dark, Conker, and Banjo-Kazooie.

Did I forget any?

QUOTE(jizmo @ Oct 29 2005, 01:42 PM)
Why do people in general praise the old times like everything was better back then. I'm a keen oldschool gamer, and an emulator fanatic, but if I take off my biased old-school glasses and look the old games realistically, they aren't really that good anymore. I just really prefer current games.

you have to remember alot of Rare's staff from the good 'ole' days of 1994-2000 have moved on to Other companies, alot of their creative talent was lost as a result, i had hoped Killer Instinct would be Reborn on the Xbox but i think there is no longer enough of the original staff left in Rare to actually make anything good come of it

That doesnt make them any less of a good company..... dry.gif

nes, thats why I didnt know the name battletoad

They were on snes and genesis too.......it was pretty big franchise back then and a great game!

so am i the only who remembers rc pro am? am I that old? blink.gif

I didn't know Rare was behind Battletoads

There are a few good games that alot of people didnt know rare was behind........they have a pretty consistent history when it comes to good games and theyre always the underdog IMO. Everytime they have a big project ppl ALWAYS doubt if they can pull it off and they do. Like our pessimistic friend, AnC.

Like most people here I like taking a trip back to the memory lane every now and then, but really, if was somehow thrown back to 1997 and was stuck with playing PS1 and N64 games again for numerous years before better systems came out, I'd beat the crap out of myself just for the sheer frustration

I agree with u a bit on that one. For example, I still dont think the snes mario kart is as good as they say it is......i think the n64 one was better. To me though, gaming like music. Not because it was released years ago when u liked music alot more doesnt mean its better than whats playing now.......its just different. People need to realise that like music games are like bookmarks to our memories and the reason why we hold these games in such high esteem is because they take us back to the wonderful experience that was. We wont ever get that experience back, no matter how much we replay the games.

with that being said, i think f zero has only gotten worse since the snes days tongue.gif

sad.gif It was truly putrid and why I'd love cleaned up version for a modern system. Slap on the 3d accelerated pc version(I believe it was Glide only).

Hell I cant even find the patch anymore for TR 1 online, and when I do its a dead link or corrupt.

Ok so back to Rare...yeah ummm, well anyways, I'm all for a PD Xtreme Beach Volleyball, Itagaki style..Go Joanna!

Hell no. Took about two months (I was, what, eleven then) to beat R.C. Pro-Am. To hell with the hatchbacks and "RVs" (a.k.a. "SUVs") the Racecar was where it was at.

You know what, to hell with that. Give me the break-out days of Rare:

Slalom: Oh yeah, my cousins in Seattle had that a year before I got my NES for Xmas.
Wizards & Warriors: Weirdest jump animation ever (For the record, Ironsword blew).
Cobra Triangle: Isometric action, baby. In a speedboat no less, with tentacles!

But really, having Acclaim as their publisher later in that gen did little to help them.

So, who's dated now?
