id Software reveals Wolfenstein 360!
October 4th, 2005
iD Software has just revealed a new Castle Wolfenstein title for Xbox 360.

The game will be a full sequel to the 2003 smash return to Castle Wolfenstein and will be developed initially for Xbox 360 only, with id using MS’s new baby as lead platform over PC.

From he glimpse offered at X05 you can expect more of the usual Nazi killing amid a strange scientific old castle backdrop type thingy.

“Xbox 360 is the world’s most powerful high-definition video game and entertainment system, delivering the best games and the next generation of Xbox Live,” said Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division and chief Xbox officer at MS Corp. “In addition, as the ultimate digital amplifier in the home, Xbox 360 will enable consumers to connect to digital cameras, portable music players and Windows® XP-based PCs to enjoy integrated entertainment experiences that simply can’t be matched.”

ATTN:

Of this is true, notice it says iD is using the 360 as its lead platform over the pc. That is NOT Carmacks way of doing things so he must be very impressed with the 360.

Its gonna look tits if this is for real!

the game will still be ported to the PC in time, to me the biggest news is that they choose the 360 as the base platform to develop the game from the ground up.  and not only does that mean that they choose it over the PC but also over the ps3.

the big three companies known to have graphic hogs for developers (tecmo with Itigaki, epic with Cliffy B, and ID with John Carmack) have all shouted and expressed time after time how much they love the 360 and how great it is.  how can ANYONE still doubt the 360 with this kind of support?  oh yeah the Cell whores spew shit out of their mouth like they sold out or dont know any better.  I was optimistic about the 360 but even i didnt see this much support and announcements for the 360 before the damn system is even launched.

Developer id Software, known for the Doom and Quake franchises, revealed that it is bringing another of its popular first-person shooters to the Xbox 360. The Castle Wolfenstein series, one of the first mainstream FPS games, will make its first appearance on a console since 2003's Xbox shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War. This new chapter will once again take place during WWII, amidst the Nazi experiments with the occult and supernatural. id CEO Todd Hollenshead was on hand to express the excitement his team felt developing for a next-generation console for the first time, and video clips showed id co-founder John Carmack making similar comments.

I personally found RTCW: Tides of War to be the best Xbox Live FPS until Halo 2.  I still think it was better than Halo 2 in many ways, though, save for the "DLC" <==(freakin' unlocking codes...).

At the time of it though, I thought it was only surpassed personally by PSO.  However, even now I still play Enemy Territory on PC.

Since Xbox Live (and the machine running it) will be able to handle more than 16 humans well, I can only imagine this on the 360!

Activision Set to Distribute Highly Anticipated Game Worldwide

id Software and Activision, Inc. confirmed at MS’s X05 event in Amsterdam that the newest installment in the legendary Wolfenstein series is being developed for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from MS and PC. The companies also confirmed that Activision, Inc. will be the worldwide licensed distributor of Wolfenstein, currently in development by Raven Software and executive produced by id Software.

"Utilizing a revolutionary new graphics technology targeted specifically at next generation hardware"

ID is releasing it for both PC and Xbox 360.  They would be stupid to not release it on PC.  But from what they said, you will need a very powerful PC in order to play it.

The Xbox 360 is next gen hardware.  Many PC gamers don't even have today's best hardware, so the game will most likely take off on the 360 before the PC.

I think...

Just because they are first releasing it for xbox 360 dosn't mean the xbox is a better system it just means ID thinks xbox 360 is more profitable of market compared to pc's right now. Pc's always have the edge because a console is just that a pc with limitations. So keep dreaming that the xbox 360 is better what do you think they are going to release the game for pc with lower res textures and shitty lighting effects like pc games on the xbox?
