Ok, first things first. I am not a maker of threads whenever I have a problem. If I have a problem, I try and try and try. I look all over the place on XS, I do everything I can. So, obviously, posting this problem is a very big thing and I hope you can spare some effort in thinking this through as much as I have. This is one crazy thing.

The Problem in three words: Xbox doesn't start.

This is what I have.

NEW and TESTED Power Supply (from krappy (good seller buy the way))
NEW 1.0 Motherboard
NEW Matching Hard Drive
TESTED Samsung DVD Drive
TESTED Front Panel Power/Eject Buttons

I have done EVERYTHING you can possibly do to test these parts! I have a 1.5 xbox and I have done as much testing as you can do with a 1.5 and 1.0 with parts.

I have switched and swapped everything you can. I have thought of everything and tried everything. Yet, still, the xbox will not turn on at all.

When I try with the old Power Supply the mobo fan will move on both the new and old mobo when you try to turn it on, and stop spinning immediatly.

What I can not think if is the following:

What in the world could possibly be wrong!?

Any help and effort put into helping me solve this problem and get this xbox turned on is appreciated more than you could imagine. My respect for the members on Xbox-Scene grows everyday.

But seriously that is a noodle scratcher. You basicly have a brand new xbox with all those parts. The only thing i can think of is a bad plug cord or the wall outlet you are using is not working

Hey there little buddy

Are you aware that the 1.0 & 1.1 power supplies vary from the rest?

I have been around the forums a long time & read a lot of the posts & I can def remember reading about a power varience from the 1.0-1.1 compared to the rest.

You would need a PSU from a 1.0 or 1.1 xbox to get it up & running :rolleyes:

just to let you know I'm not talking about the connector that plugs into the mobo but the voltage that is put out by the PSU.

If you have a friend who has a 1.0 or 1.1 xbox ask him/her if you can borrow it..

Well, I did not know the voltages are different. I will try that.

In the meantime, any other suggestions or ideas? Thank you both for you replies.

Are you saying that the 1.0 and the 1.1 use the same PSU (with same voltage output) but are different from the rest of the models
or
are you saying that the 1.0 and the 1.1 PSU's are different from each other and are not interchangeable due to different voltage output's?

I am understanding that the 1.0 and the 1.1 are interchangeable and put out the same voltage as each other but not the same output as the 1.2 -> the 1.6. Is this correct?

ok....hmm

is the power supply maybe PAL or something for some odd reason...becuase i know krappy has a lot of LE box's...

if you have an led fan or anything like that laying around that uses a molex connector...try plugging that in directly to the power supply to see if that works

i cant really think of anything else...

Yes, I tested the power buttons on the other xbox too. I tested with everything plugged in.

Did you at any time bridge the PSU heatsinks with your hand to the case? Or get an electric shock from the box? I once did this and it sent voltage down the case and through the grounds in the board effectively killing many of the capacitors on the board. It exhibited the same symptoms as yours and I even tried to bridge the VSB to PowON to force the PSU on and still no go. I ripped the ram off the board and never looked back.

I'm sure you've done most of this, if not all, but I'm gonna throw it out anyway ..

1.) Have you tried to boot the box without the DVD or HD Attached? (you should at least get a bios screen)

2.) Have you checked that none of the controller port wires are cut and grounding out?

3.) Have you made sure you don't have a bad AV cable that is grounded out, and tried just powering the box on without a AV cable and just see if it boots?

4.) Have you checked all the metal shielding in the box to make sure it is not grounding out on the bottom or sides of the mobo?

5.) Have you tried it WITHOUT the fan plugged in? (maybe bad fan)

ok all I can think of right now ...

Get a multimeter. See if your getting the 12 and I think its 5v from the red and yellow. If yes then your MB is bad or you have something connected wrong(latter sounds doubtful). If no then your PS is bad.

Are the PAL Xbox PS's voltage any different? I know the cord is shaped different(of no concern to us) but I cant remember how much voltage they run in areas where PAL is, can it be that much different? Even so it still would pump out 12 and 5 they dont custom make the power of the system according to reigon.
