Xbox App To Edit Xml Files
« on: May 30, 2004, 08:31:00 PM »

It seems that almost everything now uses xml files for configurations.  I have used xpad for a while now, but it won't support xml files.  Would be hard to create a program to edit xmls?  Or maybe just edit xpad to support xml?  I don't know about everyone else, but I think this would be incredibly useful.

Beware of using a real XML editor, as the majority of apps I've used which appear to use XML configurations, don't actually use XML.

Particularly in the case of XBMC, this is very annoying as even though something looks like a comment in its XML configuration file, it can actually be interpreted as actual contents of the file unless you comment it exactly in the way XBMC expects.

I suspect a normal text editor would be better. :-/

That's what I'm talking about.  Something that displays the xml like notepad does, or like xpad does.  I would rarely have to use my computer when changing my configurations.  Would be nice to be able to change my menu structure for avalaunch on the fly instead of having to have it hooked up to a computer.  Some of my friends don't have computers which is a real pain in the arse.

Well I can open XML files in UnleashX's included text editor, which I use to edit the XBMC configuration when I'm too lazy to go back to the computer, so if a text editor is all you need then there is already at least one around which works.

A real XML editor would be fantastic, but do any projects actually use XML format?  I wonder.

I think a multi app xml editor would be too complicated to do.  The apps are always changing and it would be tough to keep current.  If it could be pulled off, it would be an awsome tool to have.  Getting latest version of unleash to test text editor.  No wonder I didn't see it before.  Thanks.
