Speculation About Current Gen Xbox Games
« on: August 05, 2005, 08:59:00 AM »

Okay, according to THIS article which is posted on the front page, each Xbox game will have to be emulated independantly on the 360.  Each game called on the nvidia chip differently.

There are still a lot of games yet to be released on the current generation Xbox.  Do you think that any of these games are being made with 360's emulation in mind?

It would seem, to me, to be a wise idea for companies who are making games now to do this...especially since they now know how the emulation will work.  Since they know how the emulation will work they can better design their Xbox games so that emulation will be possible and easy.

well yeah each game will have to emulated separately by an "emulation profile"

just imagine the settings we can tweak with our homebrew emulators.... now instead of tweaking the settings for each new game they throw them all in a config file.... and the 360 knows which game is in the drive and loads the appropriate config file... if none exists it might load some default or maybe not run.

I also call bullshit on that article "speculating" 5-20 games at launch... one of the MS programmers working on emulation sited weeks ago that they already had over 20. Also an MS exec (though I can't remember who) said that there would be "over 100" at launch when asked what "top selling games" meant.

They said they would release the rest of the profiles over Xbox Live...

I understand that.  What I'm wondering is if the companies making the games are making them in such a way that they are more easily emulated.  Since the profile releases will be on a "case by case" basis, I would think M$ would be more likely to make profiles for the more easily emulated games first.

I'm interested to see what current xbox emulators and apps like xbmc will just run straight off..... if they can emulate the CPU easily enough, and if these don't use too many nVidia specific graphic calls, it should be sweet....

Imagine all these emultors running at day one?
