Xbox Will Not Pass Xbox Screen When Hd Is Unpluged
« on: September 09, 2004, 09:57:00 AM »

I have started a new thread of my broken xbox as a lot of speculation has been cleared up and nobody wants to read 2 pages to find out they don't know so here are the facts.

1) A week ago I got a HD error because my 80mm fan which was connected by molex adapter and basically took too much power causing my HD to turn off/on again.

2) Since then whenever my New Hd is plugged in with the fan the flubber has been slow and the white text under the xbox logo does not apear.

3) Whenever I have my HD, stock fan, DVD drive the xbox plays fine.

4) Whenever I have my HD plugged in but the DVD drive removed I get slow flubber and slow audio which freezes before the xbox logo.

5) Whenever my HD is removed but the DVD drive is in It load to the xbox screen smoothly but does not show the white text.

6) Whenever both the HD and DVD drive are removed it will load the flubber smoothly but will not show the white text.

All through this my box has a solid green light and no error screens are shown.
What is wrong with my box. Has something fried? Is my P.S.U gone? What?
This is really getting my down now and I want to get it sorted. :(  Any ideas?
Thanks.

Seems like your XBOX plays fine with the stock fan so why not put it back in and use it? and if you insist on using an 80mm fan try different brands, diffrent speeds like a lower RPM.

Yes, but it may play fine with the stock fan, but a light can switch on with 260v (uk) but will blow after 5mins unless it is at 240v. Just because something apears to be working doesn't make it safe.
That's why I'm worried. I don't want to blow anything else.

Another symtom is that when the DVD drive is not plugged in (power cord), the xbox will not turn off. I need to get the power cable or switch it off at the wall.

What is causing this? Has something blown on the mobo or the P.S.U.
I need to know, I want to play Halo 2.

I've bought a new P.S.U. I will see if that makes any difference. I hope so otherwise I'm done for.

Will putting the yellow DVD power cable the wrong way round have done anything to it?

Ah, I see what is causing people to think my xbox is fine. This never use to happen, that's what I'm saying. My xbox just got up and died and refused to boot untill I disconnected my fan.
