Ports
« on: June 17, 2005, 07:21:00 PM »

The reason the Dreamcast failed was not because it's graphics weren't better it was because they killed themselves by releasing so many failure systems the 32x, saturn, and sega cd all bombed. They wasted alot of money. Also they released it to compete with the PS1 The dreamcast was released in japan in Nov 1998. The development of the PS2 was first announced to the public in April 1999. The dreamcast killed themselves by releasing so soon, they got killed by people waiting for the superior playstation 2 instead of buying the dreamcast. They decided to pull out of the market while they were ahead, they took their money and became a full time developer. The graphics never really had anything to do with it, many other factors were responsible for the DC's death.

You won't have to worry about people not seeing the xbox360's power that is top on M$'s list, with Gears of war PD:0 and alot of other exclusives will be amazing graphics wise. Although generaly Ports do lack graphical improvment from where they are being ported, but for every port that is not astounding there will be a game that is.

well i dont think the dreamcast was made to compete with the ps1, sega did what they thought would be enough for the next generation.

but a good point it made about ports.  while it wont be as bad as the DC days i hope that we dont see a lot of dev teams just porting games for quick cash and instead developing the titles individually for the respected platform (like ubisoft with ghost recon 3, you can sure as hell bet that the current gen versions will be nothing like the one for 360)  the game GUN is coming out for the current gen and the 360 and while the 360 version looks great, you can still tell from the pic that its just a port of a current gen game which i believe has no place on a next gen system

Anyways can anyone list some games that are ports over to the 360? I know Final Fantasy is one, I don't remember seeing to many but I may have not been paying attention.

do you mean ports or just multiplatform titles? King Kong and any EA game could be put in that category

Just ports like GTA, even though multiplatformers also seem to suffer the same problem.
