Usb Flashdrive As Memory Card For Savegames?
« on: November 01, 2007, 02:52:00 PM »

I got given a broken 360 Console (3RRoD) for payment of a job (as the guy had replaced it with a new core system with extended warranty).  He has kept his HDD and so I have a console with no memory card or HDD.  I have repaired the console (I think) and want to get a cheap memory card for it.  Considering an Xbox 360 64MB mem card is NZ$60 and a 2GB Flash drive is $20 I was wondering if there was a mod or hack to trick the 360 in using a flash-drive as a memory card (i.e. for profiles, savegames, etc.  i.e. Not just to play music or videos from.), or maybe even a mod to plug in a non Microsoft 2.5" SATA HDD?

I had a quick look and didn't see any tutorials on it, so I just thought I'd ask.  I dont want to spend lots on this console as it will probably fail again or I will just flick it off cheap anyway.

Cheers

non microsoft hard drives will not work unless you first extract the security sectors from an official microsoft hard drive. this hasnt been done with the memory cards as of yet so that is not a possibility

so, to be able to use a non microsoft hard drive, you first have to BUY an official microsoft hard drive (note, these are not available for download. there are illegal to share. and also do not get it from your friends hard drive as they all have a unique id, if both used at the same time while connected to live, you will both be banned.)

Yeah I think I knew about the HDD thing (i.e. replacing a HDD in the cradle with a non-MS one a) if yours dies, or cool.gif for a bigger drive) but I wanted to see if I could just hook up a hdd without the cradle (without extracting any unique info), which I obviously cannot.

As for the USB flash drive, I would have thought this to be relativly easy if someone was so inclined to spend some time on it, but obviously noone has bothered since memory cards are not very cool... or that usefull  smile.gif

Oh well, I bought a cheap MS membcard 2nd hand, so I'll just use that when it eventually shows up.  I guess now the 120GB hard drives are out some people will be selling off their 20gb ones too, so I'll keep my eye open for a cheap one.

Thanks anyway.
