Memory Card Usb Connection
« on: August 21, 2006, 05:22:00 PM »

Hi all, just got finished tweeking the design found at http://www.360gamesaves.com/modules.php?na...wpage&pid=3. Don't know about anyone else, but I prefer the 'automated' touch for my hardware (not having to unplug and plug in another cable to use this with the PC).

I simply used a small reed relay to disconnect the USB DATA- from PIN3 and a few diodes for power regulation. This allows the xbox360 to  recognise the memory unit when a USB cable is directly connected.

Here's a crude little diagram to show how I achieved this.

Usb Cable Schematic

I know I shouldn't reinvent the wheel, but I just prefer not having to plug and unplug a USB cable in order to achieve the same effect.

Hope this helps someone.

could this knowledge evolve into using a usb drive as a memory card? maybe thinking backwards.  or is it actually impossible for the usb drive to act like a memory card?

no, this has nothing to do with using a USB drive as a memory card, this just allows a USB cable to be directly soldered to the memory card instrad of creating a breakaway cable. The memory card seems to use standard NAND flash and a USB MCU but it also contains a security chip that must be present in order for the xbox360 to accept it as a valid Memory Card. The trick will be emulating the security chip.
