Disabling Live Connection
« on: June 11, 2006, 04:07:00 AM »

i was just thinking about this the other day.

but i'm sure most people wouldn't want to be soldering in their 360s to kill a simple inet connection.

my idea is actually very similar, however MUCH safer.

you can get female/female ethernet cable extenders at almost any store now (some groceries store carry them in the homesection like with rj-11 phone jacks).

my idea was to open one up, and add switches that would kill the transmitting lines, dip switch mounts would be the smallest. this way you have a way of disabling your connection, without the risk of messing up the internals of the 360.

what do you think? i think this would be a good project to work on.

Yea i kinda like the idea of the dipswitches but i would prefer it to be automatic based on a vss signal from the hacked fw chip.

Erm, how about set up a simple firewall rule to block XBL traffic, then turn the rule on when you're using modified firmware, turn it off when you're not...simple.

I'm also confused on what you are trying to do.

If you want to disable ethernet then don't plug in the cable to the back of the 360. If you want to use it sometimes then plug it back in, or if you are savy enough enable/disable the ports for live on your router as needed.

Here's the catch though, don't expect that if you connect to live when playing an origional disk for MS not to detect that your FM is patched.  I think its highly likely that this could be detected regardless of what type of disc you have.

hmmm ....nobody knows if Microsoft can detect a hacked firmware.. but to play it safe with let say a DualFW mod.
it would be nice with a switch that disable network access with hacked firmware on...

does anyone know how NME does this?

Ive tried to ground that point via a 10k resister but then it wont disable and if i ground it directly i get an error when booting (dont remember but think it was E65 or simular)
