Oh I was not thinking. APEX is behind this. OK! They have been ripping up the market since they emerged a few years back with there super low cost MP3/VCD compatable DVD players!
Ok, no this is not going to ruin the XBOX, for one it is more costly, and for seconds I think that the XBOX will be more stable and have a more friendly user interface, not to mention the fact that is is probably just more fun to develope on the XBOX than for yet another PC.
I do not think this system is going to die either. Rather I am willing to bet that this will become the poor man's computer, as I am sure that since it will be running Winblows XP, that it will retain some sort of internet connectivity, as well as other features, and possible upgrades.
If Apex fails, they will simply stop making the hardware, but the software which is being used (DISCover software) on this hardware is also being used by other companies such as Alien Ware who plan on making there own units like this...
...Yes things are CHANGING indeed!

I would guess that if Alienware is going to use the software, that it must work like they claim, as they are a pretty serious company with quality (yet overpriced) products.
The one downfall I noticed of the Apex model is that it will be using VIA's CPU's which I have not heard the greatest things about as far as compatability goes, though I have heard they are pretty fast too... will see. Also I think it is going to use S3 GFX, which means Pacman will play at a good frame rate, but I'm not sure about anything beyond the Quake 3 engine.

More money for Microsloth either way.
