E79 with the transistor JTAG.
Either my 2222A's are not compatible or I the SMC did not get patched somehow.

if the SMC is patched will the diode JTAG work or not? I need to know if it's my transistors or my image.

thanks looouky i got freeboot running. it was my first time attempting a jtag.

i would like to point out something very important, i realized why the ibuild.exe was missing the first time i followed your tutorial, it was because build xellous is the problem. if you run build_xellous and close the window sometimes files get deleted automatically. in my case ibuild.exe was deleted after i closed the command prompt window. you can reproduce the problem simply by running build_xellous again and again and you will see it will eventually delete everything. seems like a bug in the program.

i got around this problem simply by pressing crtl+break to force the cmd window to close rather than pressing the
  • at the top right of the window.

one suggestion i have for your tutorial is to optimize it for usb spi users (separate tutorial perhaps?). i was confused at all the extra steps included in your tutorial only to realize that you did it that way to save LPT users the 40mins (x2) from reading the full nand dump and to get the nand dump via ftp at the end of the tutorial

other than that i must say this tutorial was really well written, hats off to you.

I'm a little bit confused with the new transistor JTAG wiring method. Does anyone have photos from inside of their Xbox that shows what this set up looks like? From what I understand from the diagram, it looks like you solder a 10K resistor onto each "B" pin on the transistors, and then solder a wire running to J2D2.4 and J2D2.7 from the ends of the resistors.

Also, do you have to use the Xbox 360 SMC I/O Config Utility if we're soldering to the alternative spots, such as AUD_CLAMP and TRAY_OPEN?

Thanks for helping out us newbs. I'm working on my first JTAG and it's a Zephyr, so it has to be JTAG'ed this way. Your tutorial is easy to understand and very straightforward.  biggrin.gif

Just use diodes for TMS and TDI and a wire for jumping J2D2.4 to J2D2.7, I've *never* had to use use resistors on any JTAG, and I've done every type of motherboard - mostly Zephyrs and Xenons, however.

Thank for your feedback I will update that part of the tutorial. I should have said copy the files, then close the window. ctrl+break is good too.

It's been awhile since I have had a Zephyr around, if I can get my hands on one I'll post some pictures. You can use diodes, if you like. The results may vary though. And yes you need the SMC I/O utility, it is the only way to enable it to use the AUD_CLAMP point otherwise it would not be bootable. I believe in an earlier post I explained the wiring, but basically for what you are referring to all you need to know is that J2D2.4 and J2D2.7 are connected and the ends of the resistors not connected to their respective B points (Base) of the transistor are connected to either J2D2.4 or J2D2.7, it really doesn't matter since both point should be connected already via a wire.

The funny thing is the people have reported it to work with the old wiring and the SMC patch, but the patch might have not been applied correctly so I would just re-run everything.

What happens when the aud_clamp gets ripped off?

Am i sol? The fucking chip came completely off when flipping the board over to finish the install.

Any ideas? Try solder to another point? Can i still use this tutorial?

I attempted to repair the trace and solder back on the aud_clamp.

Xellous is booting. will try freeboot tonight...

any other thoughts or ideas if it doesnt boot becuase of the aud_clamp? is there a work around? Or go back to the diodes and just deal with random RLOD?

It just a standard transitor, list the part number and see if someone could find you a compatible part from digikey.

I just ordered some 2N3904's hope they will do the trick... I waited 7 months already for a zephyr fix, what's another week!

Awesome worked like a charm! I have had like 30 successful boots. some times the boot might take a little longer then normal but no rrod!

I am glad for those having trouble with the wiring, you can find shots of the way I do it from the bottom here :

Oh one I forgot to mention is that I put tape over the soldering afterward to ensure there is no contact between the case and the transistors.
