[freeboot] Xbr -> Freeboot Without Your 5xxx/6xxx/7xxx Full Dump

Hehe, rookie mistake;) allthough it didn´t do the trick, I´m not getting an error anymore, but Ibuild just seem to work for a moment and then just goes back to, F:\freeboot..
Is there a sign of progress when it´s working correctly?
Since there´s no new image in /bin/ I´m quite sure something isn´t as it should.

I´ll keep at it. thanks.

EDIT: There´s something weird with my original dumps ( I do have them) because I just built a freeboot image from the backup I used as a donor, and that seems to hold up ok..
I have 5 dumps from this problematic box, running 3 of them through Nandcompare v1.2 reconstruct I get the message "All blocks were found matching in at least 2 nand images. Save reconstructed nand?" which results in "0 unrecoverable block(s) found." I remember doing that for my XBR image, and that worked out fine.
This seems a bit more picky though..

I was gettting the same error on my xenon, if you remove the first 16bytes from you kv.bin it should work.

If anyone has the files for a 256mb jasper can you send the to me as i have lost my orginal nand dump.

If anyone needs the files for the xenon i have uploaded them here...
http://filejumbo.com...5CEAD4B6E99602C

Cheers.

I did that. Once the first 16 byte have been removed correctly(!), the kv.bin's are identical and the image builds fine. However, I'm still unclear whether the smc_dec.bin from the xbreboot image can be used.

If the flashed image fails to boot, can I use Xellous to load linux and re-flash with a working image?

I used the smc_dec.bin renamed to smc.bin from my xbr image and it worked fine. If it does fail you can always use your lpt/usb to reflash your xbr image.

Would anybody happen to have the files for a Zephyr? I'd really appreciate it if they were uploaded somewhere. I got a donor NAND from my friend but it has bad blocks and I can't extract the files I need in 360 Flash Tool.

Also, is this method recommended? I see conflicting posts here and on other boards.

It looks simple enough but I've got a few questions ;-)

I have a Jasper 512MB and my original NAND dump is 7363. It's currently runing XBR3. Ibuild extrakts all files from the original nand without any errors. I also used 360 flash tool 0.92 to extract KV.BIN and I'm planning to get SMC.BIN from the XBR3 image I flashed.

The KV_DEC.BIN (16384 bytes from 360 flash tool) and the KV.BIN (16368 bytes from ibuild) are the same EXCEPT for the first 16bytes which are missing from the KV.BIN that ibuild extrakted.

These are the file sizes I got from ibuild and the SMC BIN from 360 flash tool:
2,528       crl.bin
4             crl.bin.meta
16,368     extended.bin
4             extended.bin.meta
16,368     kv.bin
64           odd.bin
4             odd.bin.meta
1,024       secdata.bin
4             secdata.bin.meta
12,288     SMC.bin
131,072    smc_config.bin

Is this normal? Can I use the files that ibuild extracted and the smc_dec.bin from 360 flash tool?

TIA

The above worked fine. I removed the first 16 bytes in the KV.BIN so both were identical then created and flashed the image. All working well. Thanks for the instructions!

IT WORKS!!!

I can hardly believe it! After giving my freeboot frustrations a rest I decided to try again and I had to delete the first 16 bytes from my KV.bin for ibuild to work. Used Flash360 and I was completely expecting to spend the next 45 min reflashing XBR through my LPT cable and swoosh, green lights.

This was on a Xenon with XBR3 bin, no orig.bin used. SMC_DEC and KV_DEC extracted right from XBR bin.

Follow exactly what first post says, delete 16 bytes from KV if ibuild complains, actually works!

Go to download.com and search for hex editor.
I downloaded a free one called HxD.

After you run HxD, open your KV.bin file you created and highligt the first row of code. Each row of code is 16bytes (32 hexadecimal characters grouped in 2s). Hit delete, it will warn you that the file size will change, then just save and exit.

Has anyone else noticed the image.bin file is all FF's for about the last 12%.

This time I'm using nandpro to flash another xenon and I've got error 300 from block 385 to the end, 3ff.

It seems to boot up anyway so I guess this is all normal. I wonder if next time I can just stop nandpro after Bl 385 and save some time?

the last part of the nand is called the spare area and it is there for bad blocks.

the last part of the nand is called the spare area and it is there for bad blocks. It should be 32 blocks long, so 84000 bytes, or from block 3df to 3ff.

Just helped a friend that was using xbr3 on a jasper

He made a fulldump and emailed my the dump + his cpukey

Created a freeboot 0032 image with my jasper files (had to delete first 16 bytes from the kv) and emailed him back

working fine after full flash on flash360
