Mxm Xml Editor : Need Some Testers
« on: April 11, 2003, 03:21:00 PM »

I decided to try and finish the app that I was working on. I have got it to the point when it can interpret everything in the MXM file and recognize all of the items (at least the one that I have). There is an item limit of 200 but I doubt anyone has an item list bigger than that. If some people could test out what I have so far and let me know if there are any bugs or things I have left out from the xml file that would be appreciated. It is coded in vb6 so make sure you have the runtime files. This app won't be needed when the next MXM comes out, but oh well. I should have the app fully done (reading, writing, creating new files, inserting items, and deleting items) in a few days.

Download it here.

I'm having a hard time saving out a file, would it go to the same directory the application was launched from

Sorry. I didn;t realise you had to open an xml file first, I thought you could make one from scratch

Ok I can't save at all, or even modify the menu's I change a parameter and then switch to another item, then switch back and the parameter is the old one.

Also it would be neat if you could modify items in the tree view.

And I think there needs to be a "add item" button, I can't seem to make more that the xml file I opened has.

Well aware of all of that. All that is availible in this beta is just opening up the files and viewing it in a tree view. I am already making progress on the inserting items, and the next will be deleting items. I haven't decided if I am going to make it save the xml every time you switch the item number or after you are done with the whole process. It may be easier to just have it save after you change the item number. The save button will be used mainly for saving the main and music parts of the xml. I will try and work on getting the tree view to be editable but that may have to wait a little while.

I like this tool very much, it would be greater though if you could make a new file for a new disk though but so far it looks very promising... email xantium about this and he will put a article on xbox-scene front page about it...that will drum up plenty of teters!

I've been running behind lately but now it is able to save any item, main and music changes. I have run into one snag with the saving which I am working on fixing right now. If you try and add a description or any other setting when there wasn't one there before it pops out an error, but I just have to tell the program to create a spot for it by default when loading(ie. auto add a description category to each item number). The adding and deleting items should be done soon too. After that I will implement the new file settings. I have also started work on the next version that will be able to be used once .9i comes out. BJ has sent me a copy of the xml that will be with .9i and I want to get it out close to release time. I want to get this one finished first for anyone who isn't making the switch right away.

found a few new bugs. will post when it is ready for update

Update :
New version is ready to be uploaded and will be up shortly. It now has the capability to insert items and delete items. If you wish to insert items make sure that all of the items stored in the list have all variables (ie title, description, directory, and media). If no description is found when looking at items it automatically adds a default one.  If you try to insert a value somewhere where there wasn't one before it will pop out an object error. Also it will pop out an error if there was a value and now there isn't one to store. If you find any other errors, please post here or PM me.

I will soon. I haven't done any web design in a while. I am more focused on getting this done right now. I do plan on zipping it up with a default.xml that can be loaded to create new files using default values that you can specify by editing that xml. Let me know how it works for you. I emailed Xantium but I haven't got any response. I have also fixed the problem with inserting before number one, although now it has trouble with 2-10. cussing.gif

UPDATE :
I have uploaded the new exe which fixes the insert error with items 2-10. You will see the new button has also shown up on the toolbar. The code is almost fully implemented for new files. It should be done by sunday.
