Unable To Lock Maxtor Hd
« on: January 05, 2003, 07:54:00 PM »

ConfigMagic Beta 2.0 reports that my drive (ATA-100) does not support locking. I have also tried ATAPWD and UnlockX but have had no success.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Did you get around it? Can I force a lock using a Maxtor ATA-Command?

Thanks for your help,

-Ed

I havn't seen that problem, but did you try eepromer? Don't if you have a 1.1 box, otherwise, give .45 beta a try, sometimes it works when config dosn't. It is also possible that your drive can't lock, if you can, get a hold of a western digital or a seagate, those rarley have locking probs. Sorry, I don't know much about force locking. Good luck

I've seen several reports of people not being able to lock Maxtor HDs.

I bought a Maxtor 120 GB 5400rpm and found out it couldn't be locked either...

Not much you can do about it except buy another brand I'm afraid :(

Yeh, maxturd is notorious for being unlockable.. It's an old school ata standard that hasn't been used much so I guess they just decided against implenting it.
