As long as your 360 hasn't been updated to 8498 or higher, it's been possible to retrieve the DVD key from a working 360 motherboard for a couple of months.

So let me get this straight here. If someone has an early enough kernel and installs this chip with the patched kernel, what happens when M$ comes up with an update? Does this method require constant updating/reflashing of the chip to stay current? If so, how easy is the process? Last question is this live safe? Probably not but I had to ask so I know.

See, I know a fairly large group of friends that have a 360 and so my job is to keep them current with all the info I can, plus I just like to know these things myself to help decide my next current gen console. lol

I knew this would be coming, I'm surprised MS did the 1 million 360 ban, because I'm sure there were some at MS that told them NOT to do it that way, that it would piss off 1 million people and that they would do a much deeper hack since these 1 million people have nothing to lose.

If MS just did a cheater ban or much small ban , it would have kept it off the RADAR, but, this 1 million 360 ban has created 1 million PISSED oFF people.

This is day ONE , hopefully by xmas we will be receiving some good xmas presents from the SCENE.

Of course the stuff I wrote will be done, it will, it is just a matter of time. A few years back, nobody thought the 360 could be hacked, I remember on this board all people said MS locked down the 360, we would never be able to crack it because of all the safety features on it.

just a matter of time before someone removes the ping limit on systemlink games now that the kernel is being reverse engineere, so we can use free alternatives again like xlink kai or XBC

going to get a new 2008 arcade tomorrow and get this stuff going.. <3

BTW, would having freeBOOT installed still require flashing the DVD firmware to play backups or is that not the case anymore?

Also, would you still need a xD card or Cygnos for a 256MB/512MB Jasper 360 as I think there is enough space on those versions NANDs to accomodate 2 dashboards.

and to people that think the "1 million ban" caused this, FAIL!

these developments have been going on for a very long time, with a lot of very talanted groups/individuals, the ban has nothing to do with the progress of this achievement.

You fail to understand that I am a huge supporter of this hack, and I posted the video in the thread you are responding to. I also took the time to understand the series of events and mistakes (by M$) that led to this happening, and the chances of it happening again (for new bootloader) are so astronomically low, it's truly not even worth mentioning.

So please, stop pretending to have the slightest clue about anything, you are a blind optimist who doesn't understand how these things work.

I know the JTAG hack has been around a while now but this has really got me interested.

Does anyone have a link to somewhere I could buy the kit needed to do this hack?
