So if you boot with freeBOOT into the m$ dash, can you go on live? What happens if you DO update? and what is an R6T3?

That link gave me a lot of background, thanks.

It would have been nice if they posted it on the homepage, and linked to the appropriate forum page in the older newspost, w\e.

Also, how many fuses are there total? Is there any potential to race MS out of all the fuses they have available, while they are still going to want newer updates? or at least make them use many up, so that they hold onto them longer [ Which is probably already there policy...]

Pre-edit tongue.gif -- According to http://en.wikipedia....#Specifications , 768 fuses == 768bits == 96bytes. How many are we upto so far? I would like to see them exhaused while we are still on 2bl v2 [mighthavewrong bl...].

There are 5 fuse lines each with 64bit.

They blow 4bit per update (exclusions apply).

5x16 = 80 updates.

If R6T3 is removed, will it prevent any of the MS updates from working correctly? Do they check for blown efuses before/after upgrading?

iirc the update simply crashes with an error and you'll be returned to nxe ...no guarantee though smile.gif

The benefit of removing the resistor is that you can always guarantee that you will have an exploitable xbox. But no, you won't be able to run the newest updates with it removed - those fuses are required to be blown.

Okay i have a question that seems a bit out there, since i do understand when you remove the R6T3, you cannot update.

If you cannot update, how can you still have the 849x dash?

Or am i misunderstanding the dash number?  What dash is the august 2009 now?  And with freeBOOT, is it possible to get on live? What about games with wave4?

Thanks smile.gif

@nomorgow the rebooter is using virtual efuses

@cory1492 so the update just blows the fuses and then tells the kernel the new value
the update dosent tell the cpu that it needs to blow this fuse and the efuses number is in the update b4 you update

am i right (rally want to understand this and have been trying this in now the most i have understood)

No, the virtual fuses are only for reading; if you run an update it will blow the *actual* fuses and you will lose the ability to run the exploit. You don't run the 849x updater, the 849x kernel gets installed directly on the second NAND with the flashing stuff.

You are misunderstanding one thing. Freeboot does not UPDATE to 8xxx it RUNS 8xxx. that is something completely different!

Okies I understand!  I did a bit more reading and hunting around the threads on xboxhacker and i think i'm in good shape and ready to do the cygnos whenever divineo will ship my unit.

Just because of the way it works and the very good chance that MS will throw down the ban hammer when they see you're running virtual fuses, i'm in the process of getting a new 360 working to be my new live machine.  Now i just need my problems to be resolved with that, and i'll be ready to go. smile.gif

Appreciate the responses, guys!

Of course, your best bet is always going to be to have an Xbox for homebrew and one for LIVE. IMO the advantage to the rebooter is being able to play the latest games early without worrying about bans, since it won't be used for LIVE at all.

Hey guys, a couple quick questions:

Will cygnos V1 work with freeboot?

If yes, what's the major difference between version 1 and version 2? Besides 60 bucks that is.

or you can do dual nand like i did
