Posted by XanTium | June 15 16:29 EST | News Category: Xbox360

A new version of the Cygnos360 multi-kernel chip has been announced:
Quote

Some features of the new Cygnos360 V2.0
- downgrade Xbox360 (production before August 2007 and non-HDMI)
- switch between the kernel on your Xbox360 and the kernel on Cygnos360 V2 (for example for region-code switching or switching to homebrew/exploitable kernel)
- no lifting of CE-pin or cutting of traces neccessary
- protect your data by storing offline information on the Cygnos360 V2 NAND-flash and avoid banning (dirty-NAND concept)
- directly downgrade on the Cygnos360 V2 NAND-flash
- easy quicksolder installation of Cygnos360 V2
- Cygnos360 V2 firmware can be up- und downgraded to any version in the field
- built from high quality components
- downgrading takes 1h15m on average on a middle-class PC - reading from and writing to flash takes less than a minute each
- easy to use
- a reliable solution for downgrading (Xenon mainboards)
- run Linux (Xenon mainboards)
- read and flash your Xbox360 and Cygnos360 V2 NAND-flash in less than one minute
- Infectus is no longer needed for any of the functions

Does this mean even 360s with blown fuses can be downgraded?

Maybe i'm wrong but with infectus downgrading was possible only on Xenos mb with dash not newer than v.2.0.2858 (no NXE dash). With this tool all xenos become downgradable regardless the dash ver.?

So if I understand correctly, with this, I don't need to downgrade if I use the NAND from the cygnos360 v2 with their firmware or an old firmware? Why would you downgrade if you can use the 2nd nand with an alternate firmware?

sorry if this is completely stupid of me to ask, but would a chip like this allow you to get/send the info you need in order to un-ban a 360?

I'm just as confused and full of questions as everyone else, but there is no way to send an "unban" for your system. It might have a way of copying someone elses 360 NAND (one that is not banned) to your system and unban it. You couldn't have both systems on line at the same time of course. Again this is all speculation from my regular Xbox unbanning days of swapping EEPROMs.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm kind of excited to see if this will really allow an updated Xenon to swap between dashes!

This can do nothing new. It basically adds a new NAND that you can change to (while the 360 is off.) One storing an exploitable kernel to launch linux on and the other to store whatever you want (presumably the latest one so you can go on XBL and play) The problem with this is that you can only use it on downgradeable Xenon boards which are few and far between today. But that isn't Cygnos's fault. So this is a nice thing for someone maybe to get if they have an exploitable console that they still want to play on XBL with...but not many people have that. This chip cannot unban your console or let you do anything that you couldn't do before with it, it doens't allow for more hacks or what have you, just a clever PCB with a NAND chip on it and a swtich...nothing more.

Actually, there should be no reason you can't use this on ANY 360; it's just downgrading/exploiting/etc is only possible on non-referb xenon boards, atm.

While that may be useless right now, if and when another exploit is discovered, this product could again be used.

Either way, we need more stuff like this to help generate interest in 360 homebrew. As it stands, I haven't seen any 360 homebrew apps, despite the exploit being discovered so long ago. I suppose it's still kind of a "bitch" to do the KK exploit every time, in order to test any homebrew, but maybe when it's easier we'll start seeing some 'brew.

Any one know if you need a exploitable kernel to use it to switch regions.
And if it will work on a jasper.

Hopefully it does then Ill be able to play my imported games, That I stupidly brought over seas on my holiday because there were cheap.

if i get understand this correctly, they are saying they can downgrade xenon mainboards (that is the CBs up to 1921) only then you can change your region code or run linux. but you can now also read and flash the nand quite fast as i see. they claim less than a minute, thats far quicker than infectus. also you can clone your nand and then have a version for offline playing (backups) and online playing (no backups) to avoid getting banned. because MS is not able to see what you are doing with your second kernel version if you never go online with it.
sweet :-)
