E71 Problem
« on: February 18, 2008, 01:48:00 PM »

a little over a year ago i got a 360 that would start up and show E71.
research tells me that this was a crappy bios update.

I opened this thing to try and fix it and now M$ refuses to do anything about it.
Is there a way to force an update?
i was hoping there would be a Bois replacement by now so I could go that way. the thing has been sitting on a shelf not being used since then.

Try this...
QUOTE

Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.
1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
2. While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.

I feel your pain.

Flashed Benq flawlessly. Everything was running perfect. Inserted new game and asked to update. Replied yes and update started but don't think it completed cause after reboot getting error 71 immediately after logo screen consistantly! Should not have accepted update.

Tried the follow fixes:
1. Unplug/replug all cables, mem cards, drive, ect. "failed"
2. Press and hold sync button during boot "failed"
3. Press and hold Y and R trigger during boot "failed"
4. Burned/inserted cd of M$ update during boot "failed"
5. Restored DVD drive back to original FW "failed"
6. Various Combinations of all of the above! "failed"

Has anyone else run into this error 71? Is there a fix other that M$ support?

i have had that problem since day one... ( i opend it before i tested it doh...)

if i first start the xbox, and let it be on like 2 - 3 minnuts with the E 71 error or RoD,
then i turn it off, and booting it again, wolla, it works...

- i also instaled som new cooling in the xbox, now it never turns off. after houers of movie and game time.
