It's possible to spread viruses and malware with the Exploit and that's what their worried about. It's gonna suck when xbox live is complete trash full of cheats / viruses / ddos attacks.

Maybe with Kernel 4532 or 4548.  With live, you need the most current kernel/filesystem, which isnt exploitable.  So, all code MUST be signed, or it wont run on a Live enabled console.  If someone could spread malware/viruses on a current kernel, that means they can sign their own code, which means we'd be able to use homebrew on any console and we wouldnt need the exploit...  The same goes for cheating - we can't modify any signed files, and since all important files on the discs are signed,  you'd be hard pressed to cheat (besides usual bugs in games, etc...).

No malware will be on live, might be kinda hard to DDoS Live, if there is a virus on the 360, youd be pretty stupid to do a virus on it, shit i can't word this.

Hope this leads to a custom dashboard and kernel one day (maybe even double boot!)

Is a custom kernel/dashboard even a possibility with this hack?

Where can you actually find an infectus mod chip though?

Nope, you're still stuffed, at the moment the King kong's shaders are used to load Linux and this can only be loaded from disc -which you can't do. Until someone mods the shaders of an executable with a media flag which can boot from HDD, you can't do anything.

Anyone know where I can pick this up in the UK?

there will never be a Kingkong DVD that has a shader hack that is able to load from the hd.. there is however another way by editing the shader to run from its own dvd...

edit:
and the reason why is because the 'biggest'shader isn't big enough to hold a 'real' hd loader.

Awesome that this is finally out and workable. I'll probably be holding off until there are options to retain full functionality of recent games. Having XBMC360 would be great, but I at least want the ability to continue playing games.

Is there a reliable store in USA/Canada to buy this wonderful thing along with the Infectus? It seems Divineo is not holding stock of both products...

sweet now the gates are open for stupid hackers too completely ruin xbox 360 and xbox live. Xbox Live is already F'd up from ddos attacks. Glad I just got a Ps3. Can't wait for all the viruses and Malware BS too completely ruin Xbox Live.

Sometimes the Consequences are greater than the Benefits (don't know if I said that right)

Posts like this do nothing but spread unwarranted fear. The Xbox1 is pretty much an "open-door" for all hackers to write malicious code for, and I have never seen/heard of it happening. So why would you think that this will happen with the 360 when the "door" is barely cracked open? Furthermore, do you even technically understand what this chip is for? All it does is let you downgrade the Operating System to an older version so you can use the King Kong disc to boot Linux.

Just look at Xbox1. It getting hacked was the best thing that ever happened to that console, and to MS$ games division. Xbox360 wouldn't exist imo if Xbox1 hadn't been hacked. Don't be so quick to immediately associate hacking negative consequences. The good will always far outweigh the bad...

Would this let you change the key without modded fw?  Like if you had a 79 and cant solder the passkey could you find/change the key and swap with a samsung of benq?

I honestly belive that too. The original xbox was a good system on it's own but it was (in MS's prespective) only a scapegoat, something to introduce themselves to the market with, untill they come out with the xbox360 later on. Which is why the original xbox had a relatively short life span even though the console had ALOT more to give (look at the PS2 for example).

IF the original xbox wasn't ever modded it would have been just another console... just another short lived saturn or dreamcast (I love the dreamcast by the way, no need to flame me for this comment). After the original xbox was hacked news about the "xbox" spread everywhere, specially on the internet where it's owners helped form one of the largest homebrew scenes ever! If you compare search results between "xbox" and "playstation" on google or googlefight you'll see exactly what modding the orignal xbox did, it made it a name brand and a legend.

No, not at this time.  You need modified firmware to boot a patched King Kong backup in order to use the exploit.  People are looking into other ways of executing the exploit without a disc.

No, because you need a modified drive to boot the King Kong exploit to change the key.

Sorry if this is a well known thing and if I sound stupid. So if you actually get linux onto the box you cannot connect to live, get kernel updates, play games etc.?

This product will allow you to downgrade to K:1888 (original) using the timing attack, then upgrade to an exploitable kernel (4532/4548) to use linux. If you wanted to use live after that, you would then accept the live update (assuming you disabled the efuse power supply) to use Live again.  You could also flash the NAND with the backup you made prior to downgrading.  When you wanted to go back to using linux, you would flash a backup you made of the exploitable kernel using an Infectus.  If you had a dual NAND setup (of which, a few different setups have been done), then you could switch back and forth between a current Live kernel and an exploitable kernel.

Isn't that a little to much work and money just to have linux on your xbox? All it does is let you change your dashboard and have homebrew stuff and you can't even pleh live with it on! I think that it is a little pointless. sleep.gif
