not necessarily.. if they can re-sign the disc couldn't they theoretically change the media type, or strip out the media flag completely.

The potential is that they could make every disc like the King Kong demo disc... it'd be like the Dreamcast days where if you tweaked patched the rip and burn it right you could have a backup playable on any unmodified console.

you're right that this SPECIFICALLY doesn't do that... but it seems to me that no need for modchips to get region free play/homebrew is where this is heading... unless I'm missing something.

If someone can now find a similar way for the PS3 to allow the UK drive to be set as Region BD-A this would be great.

Yes, but only if the CPU key is known, which requires that you have an old enough kernel to boot Linux via the King Kong exploit (or that you already did that before upgrading and wrote the CPU key down).

Except without the original dvd drive, there is no way to boot King Kong.

Yes, hence "if you already know the CPU key". I.e. before your DVD drive failed.

Hi this is my first post, I have been hunting for a very long time on how to get around the region block and its drove me crazy for years. I want to know how to do this Step By Step please. I'm new to all this so please be very detailed I just want to play a game that has been collecting dust on my counter for 2 years.

And you've bumped a three year old thread to ask this.......the info is available in stickies in this sub forum....

In a nut-shell, you need an exploitable 360 (ie one with a dash sub-8XXX), you need to JTAG it, then flash FreeBoot 0.32 to the NAND (FreeBoot is region free). Job done.
