My homeboy called me while I was at work all excited about this, since he got his japanese system banned and he said "now I can just get another american system"... I hate when people don't read everything they're reading....

 Anywayz, this progress is simply amazing. I *KNEW* someone would pull it off. What's better is this increases the likelyhood that one could make a region free 360 down the line, though changing to a japanese console isn't a bad idea (I play my jap console more, since all NTSC/J only games boot on it, and almost all the american games I own are region free).

 Now if we could just find a way to exploit newer kernels... though I'm sure with all the progress being made this year, someone's going to figure out a chip solution that will work (I wouldn't mind getting a chip purely for switching regions).

This will all become easier in a yr or so. Think about the first xbox, everything was extremely difficult at the start, now we can have it hacked in 10 mins with a chip and a bios, can do everything that would have taken months to figure out before. We've come so far with it all.

Its funny though, i reckon at least 50% of people want a hack JUST so they can use XBMC. Makes me laugh.

I agree, plus XBMC is great, but any home brew app is really.

I just want the waiting to end to finally be able to play home brew and unlock the dam thing! But then again, I contribute nothing because I don't know where to begin and I can't desolder an IC chip due to lack of equipment

XBMC great homebrew app ! XBMC 360 will be the Greatest app of all Time ! I cant wait until all file formats are unlocked on MY xbox360. I cant wait to finally play any HD file i like ! Great Work !!!   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

What do you mean "Proper"

A TSOP flash could do just as much as one of the earlier gen chips could do, the later features of the last gen of xbox1 chips were gimmicks more than anything.

It's looking more and more as if getting the CPU key from any 360 is now the 'holy grail of xbox 360 hacking'. As soon as someone finds out how to get it after a kernel upgrade all hell will break loose for MS

I mean Homebrew not just "backups", I mean running apps from the hard disk, turning the console to a completely region free console (not having to switch regions and do a TSOP flash again every time I want to switch regions) I mean everything the original xbox has and more!  

Eventhough the original xbox has been dropped from both microsoft and third party developers; I personally still have mine connected and I use it on a daily basis and will probably never "box and shelf" it untill the my 360 gets what the original xbox has.

Anyways, this finding is one big step towards that goal

well thats what i was waiting for , but the poblem is that most people will dont know how to do it ..

so pleas if any one has some free time wright the steps from the -kingkong exploit to extracing the cpu keys to applying the patch ..

It's a very good progress but i'm sure it will take time to be used by everybody.I hope new kernels could be exploitable and we can see homebrew as in xbox1. Thanks for the info and thanks for those who are working so hard on this.

Just because several people have mentioned it: you aren't stuck with an older kernel if you want to do this.

1) Start with an exploitable old kernel, dump your CPU key from Linux and take a backup of your NAND with an Infectus.
2) Go on Live and upgrade to the latest kernel.
3) Back up the NAND again with the Infectus so you have a copy of both kernels.

You can now use the flash tool to change the region of the *new* kernel, and flash that back on. You now have a new kernel with any region you like

Also, you now have the ability to downgrade as well, if you want to boot Linux again, or if something else interesting to do with the exploit is released: the flash tool can patch the old kernel dump so that it will work even though your eFuses have been blown.

Edit: Oh, also, you can use certain xD/SM card readers instead of an Infectus, if that's easier to get hold of. See xboxhacker forums for how to do it
