How To Boot Original M$ Bios With Upgraded Hdd
« on: September 14, 2005, 08:47:00 PM »

I have a tsop that is split two ways with x2 on one bank and original bios left on the other bank.   I have upgraded my hdd to a 200 gig WD. I have copied the c:/ and e:/ from my original hdd directly to my new one.  The only files I have added were evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini to c:/ and I have added some folders and apps to f:/.  Other than that I have done nothing to it in regards to adding or editing files.  I plan to use the hdd for live and I'm going to have to boot the original M$ bios in order to play xbl.  Do I have to lock the hdd in order to boot it? If so how do I do this?  Also I have heard about people not having a password or key (don't really know what i'm talking about here) and not being able to unlock it so is there a something I should backup or right down if I have to lock it?  Thanks for any help

Yes, the MS BIOS requires that the hard drive is locked, so download the tool ConfigMagic from Xbins, and put it in your Xbox's applications folder. Run it, then select 'Lock hard drive' from the menu.

When ConfigMagic locks your hard drive, it will create a backup of your EEPROM (called EEPROMbackup.bin), which gets placed in either the root of the E:\ or F:\, I can't remember. Transfer this file to your computer, and keep it in a safe place.
