Sata Port Question
« on: September 05, 2010, 03:32:00 AM »

That will depend entirely on the motherboard in your computer. I use the SATA ports right on my motherboard because it has an Nforce4 chipset. If your mobo doesn't have this, then yes, you'll need to go and buy a separate VIA SATA card. Do you know the model number for your motherboard or your computer? I can tell you if it will work or not if you give me either of them.

It honestly is more of just hit or miss to be honest. I flash my drives with an nForce 630a chipset without issues and I know others that flash with an Intel chipset (dont know which one).

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but there's more chipsets that work than just VIA and nForce 4. VIA is simply recommended because it has the largest standing record of running correctly AND the cards based on the chipset are dirt cheap.

Sata Port Question
« Reply #2 on: September 05, 2010, 03:13:00 PM »

i'm looking on my motherboard and this is all i see

Intel Desktop Board D945GCZ/D945PAW

but when i google image that motherboard it doesnt really look like mine

but either way, i went and bought a sata cable this morning, plugged it into the second sata port on my motherboard, but jungle flasher didnt recognize the drive, so then i switched both sata cables in the ports because i thought maybe it had to be on the primary sata port, but jungleflasher still wont recognize my drive.

very frustrating...

any help would be appreciated. thanks!

ICH7 chipsets (yours) are compatible but tend to have issues with Benqs and Samsungs. You can just try to use Benq unlock on the correct port (MAKE SURE ITS NOT YOUR COMPUTER HDD!), and see if it unlocks. If it doesn't you're simply going to have to purchase a VIA card.

Sata Port Question

yeah i think i tried to benq unlock my dvdrw 5 or so times in the process. haha
so i borrowed my friends pc too just in case because he built it himself and its only a year or so old..
so i plugged the sata from the xbox into one of the available sata drives on his motherboard, fired up jungleflasher, scrolled through the i/o ports and still didnt detect the benq, so i thought maybe the xbox had to be on first, shut the computer down, turned the xbox on, rebooted the computer and jungleflasher still wouldnt recognize the benq...

does the xbox need to be in vendor mode in order for the sata port to recognize it?
should i just break down and buy a via card?
would a connectivity kit be needed also?
thanks to all taking the time out to help

There's no need to buy a connectivity kit, though it is recommended. There are still unconfirmed rumors flying around that if you run your 360 without the dvd drive attached, you can get banned at a future date. If you're not worried about that happening, then no, don't bother getting the kit.

Personally, I'd just go ahead and buy a Via card, you can get them for as cheap as $15 on amazon, and about $10 on ebay.

im gonna shoot up to microcenter tomorrow and see if they have the via port, i just dont wanna wait another week for amazon to send me this part, the main reason i'm modding my xbox is because i want to play halo reach nowwww. lol

so once i get the via port, would i need to turn on the benq before i start the computer for jungleflasher to recognize it?

is there a tutorial on putting the xbox in vendor mode? all the videos on youtube are taken with shaky cams and 11 year olds narrating.

thanks for your help

FWIW I'll go ahead and say that if you play Halo Reach early and do Live, you'll get banned (Happened last year with everyone trying to play CODMW2 a month early), and also if rumors are to be believed, the new dashboard likely detects our firmware and will ban your console if you use a game like Reach, which I (assume) has the new dashboard update on it.

Right now, if Reach is your goal, you're looking for a ban if you play on live. Only time will tell if Reach is safe or if it will be the start of the new ban wave.

I've gotta agree with rune-san. You're asking for a ban if you play Reach before the street date. You're also talking about using a pirated game, which none of us here will help you with. You want help making legitimate BACKUP games, that's fine, but don't ask any of us for help with something illegal like playing a pirated game.
