I'm powering my 3.5" drive by using the 12+v line from the DVD power cable.

Did you use any kind of adapter?

What about the data connector, can we just connect a sata hdd to it and it will work?

The sata connector on the top of the xbox works with any sata drive once its jtag's just only 5v drives. if you want to run a 12v 3.5 drive you will have to cut the yellow wire on the connector and attach it to a 12v source. like the dvd drives 12v wire will work perfect. if im wrong about witch wire someone correct me.
