The Easiest Method To Swap In A Larger Hdd And Transfer Data
« on: March 02, 2010, 10:45:00 PM »

I originally outlined this in another topic.

1. Place you original HDD in your console and load XeXMenu.
2. Obtain FTP access to your console.
3. Transfer Hdd1 and HddX to your PC.
4. Replace the original HDD with the larger one.
5. Format it in XBR and run hdd_compat_partition_fixer_v1 (from the usual places) from XeXMenu.
6. FTP the contents of Hdd1 and HddX back to your console on to the larger HDD.
Note: You may have to run the avatar update after doing this.

From xbox.com here.

Also, from HDD Compatiblility Partition Fixer v1 nfo:
"XeXMenu's FTP won't see the Partition until there's a file on it, so copy a file via XeXMenu on it and it will be shown via FTP too."

I assume this could all be done by copying the files to an external USB HDD and then back once finished (instead of FTPing).

So with it Jtagged i can just get a drive and not have to worry about having another 360 drive to get the partition table or anything of that nature from it? I don't have any data i am worried about transferring from any other drive i will be starting with blank drive and an empty shell. Just want to know before i but everything , i already have done the mod to a console but i sold it the next day , i only got a few hours to play with it unlocked.
And when you say format it in XBR you just mean format it the same way you would if it werent modded correct , from the NXE dashboard , only because it isn't checking security it will do the big HDD? And will it take any size , can i put a 750gb on it if i want?

Edited too add the last couple sentences.

Well you still need an original drive to copy the files from... but once you do that you can ditch the original drive. You can then format your new drive (of any size) in the dash how you described. hdd_compat_partition_fixer_v1 will address creating the HDDX partition for you. You just need the system files from that partition before you can ditch the original drive.

Ah ok well then , i do have one i can copy files from just is not mine. I have been out of the mod scene for a couple years , i checked on it back in December saw the homebrew stuff and got right back into it, DVD drive modding was never my thing. Ok well thanks for the answer i got it now , is the HddX the partition for original xbox emulator?

Yes, HddX contains the Xbox1 emulator files.

Yes, that is why we copy Hdd1 which contains all of that information.

Spegs, thanks A LOT for this. I've actually been searching for an answer to this for a long time now, pretty much wondering how to transfer "licenses" to the new hard drive i just ordered so I would still be able to use previously downloaded content without logging in to live, as my box is banned, and the one I'm about to JTAG soon will most likely get banned too.

Just be sure to log out of your profile before you launch xexmenu to back everything up.  When it asks you to login, just hit B.  I made the mistake of not doing this and although I didn't get any errors my profile did not transfer and I didn't discover it until AFTER I'd put a new hard drive in the case.
