So basically if your drive has data on it and you are using XBR then load the "hdd_compat_partition_fixer_v1" program and let it create partition2 then using xplorer360 extreme2 backup a partition 2 from another M$ drive then restore that partition2 on your XBR Drive you have then Xbox1 compatible games will work after you run the update.  then also Xplorer360 (Modified with your magic number) will work on yer new drive as it will have all the partitions you are needing for it to be seen.

I've been using a 500Gb drive which was formatted by the 360, all works fine ie games, dlc, xbla etc but would like to be able to use Fatxplorer with it. I've run the "hdd_compat_partition_fixer_v1" which worked fine but haven't added the Xbox1 compatibility as I don't need it. FatXplorer sees the drive OK but errors with "insufficient resources..." when trying to sync, it works fine with the old 20Gb so am assuming the software is fine and there's something missing from the HD. Xplorer360 can see three partitions but no content.

Any suggestions?

Does this also work if you were using a HD from a 360 which got banned from live and as such, the HD was crippled ?

I have a new 640GB drive for my JTAG'd 360 and my old drive (crippled one) is 60GB.

ALL i want from the 60GB drive, is my Fifa 10 & Mass Effect II saves, nothing more.  I believe, that the saves are crippled...how do i go about transferring them to the new 360 drive ?

Thanks for any suggestions / advice smile.gif

** Update **

Found the solution !  For anyone else with the same problem, use 'CON Flag Remover' to remove the corruption, then re-hash/re-sign them using 'Xbox 360 Hash Block Calculator'.

Works perfect on my Mass Effect II save which came from a banned, crippled 360.

I'm pretty new at this whole process. I have a 3.5" 500gb Seagate drive which I just want to test it all on, and if it works get myself a 2.5" drive.

Problem is my xbox doesn't see the drive when I go into system -> memory, just says there are nothing in there.
I've connected the drive to my pc first and deleted the partition from it, so shouldn't have any issues like that.

Do I need to do something to the drive before connecting it to the xbox for it to recognize it?

PS. Any specific type of HDD that would be better to buy than others? Or is it all good?

I connected my 20 gb drive to xplorer 360 extreme 2 to start the image backup part. Only partitions 0, 2 and 3 show up....where the hell is partition 1?

Or is this normal? I didn't proceed with this tut cause i didn't know why it was like this.

O, and linkitch, i think you can only have the 360 format an hd if it's connected to the oem hd port. Anything plugged into the other usb ports i don't think the format function works.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure your Xbox has to be jtaged before you can format it using the 360.
So his statement should read like;
6. While its copying, connect your new hdd to the jtaged 360, and have it format the drive

Thanks for the guide, will be trying it with a 500gb drive soon.  I assume that rather than copying everything via USB at the end we can just transfer via FTP now instead?

Once you new drive is all setup...you need to install 'XexMenu' in order to have ftp access.  Could be other programs, but that's the one i use.

Once that's on...run the prog and then connect via FTP and transfer away smile.gif

Here's how you can save time during the restore:

When you restore the 120gb image to the NEW hdd just cancel after about 10%. The partition table will have been written and partition 0, 2 and 3 are there. Then you can restore partition 2 from the backup and format the drive on the 360 so partition 3 becomes the right size. My drive was hooked up via USB (to the PC) and the 120GB restore was going to take all night ;-)

The files for partition 3 need to be copied afterwards anyway so there's no need to wait for a complete restore of the drive.

Actually I made a mistake with the final "Optional" part of the guide.

As I learned the hard way.....what happens when you use xplorer360 to copy the files back over....They DO copy over BUT....xplorer doesnt see the true partition 3 thats on the drive and thinks its empty, instead its as if it sees what it thinks it is.  As a result....when you copy files over to the partition with xplorer360 - and then put it back in the 360....the files show...BUT the total size available has reverted back to the old size.

So I reformatted the drive in 360 and that partition showed up as fine again with full space.

I then did try using FatXPlorer among other xplorer360 alternative programs - but they're all very slow to transfer large amounts of data - and sometimes come up with error messages when trying to transfer.....  Do seem fine with small transfers however but if trying to dump a load of data then seems very tempermental (to me at least)

Soooo...the easiest and fastest way to get the data back to 360 is the manual way with a USB drive and copying it in xexmenu.  (I can't edit the first post unfortunately)
Soooo..

16. Launch Xplorer360_extreme2, click Drive | Open Image | then select your original hdd image file.

17. Click on Partition 3

18. Highlight all the files in partition 3, then right click and choose Extract. Select a temporary folder on the USB Drive and let xplorer360 extract all the files, content, xbla titles etc to your USB Drive

19. Close Xplorer360_extreme2.

20. Load up 360 (with the new hdd connected) and plug in the USB drive to one of the ports.

21.  Launch xexmenu from a CD

21.  Within XEXMenu, browse to your temp folder on USB drive, then select Copy to the first folder. (eg $SystemUpdate )

22.  Navigate to the root of the main hdd for xbox 360 and select Paste.

23.  Repeat 21 and 22  for each of the main folders

All your content should now have come across with no problems. (This time smile.gif)

You generally should only have 4 folders.... $SystemUpdate , $TitleUpdate , Cache, and Content.

Be sure to only copy from them folders....it's not the end if you don't - but inside the Content Folder is likely to be lots of subfolders.  If you copy from the whole of the Content folder it should copy every subfolder too......whereas if you tried to do each individual subfolder, there is no way at the moment in XEXMenu to select multiple files so could take ages

is this part supposed to take ages or is it just me because i left it on all night and it did not finish
is there a better way of doing this? Also the 640 GB hard drive i have has been opened in xplorer360 with 3 partritions. But when i copied the content folder from the image to partrition 3 it did not finish all the way and i was stuck with only 109 GB free is this because the drive is not reporting correct size?

I propose a simpler method for those of us whom feel comfortable with fdisk.

1. Use Xplorer360 to make backup of original m$ drive (e.g. 20gb drive.)
2. Format new larger drive w/ XBR (e.g. 640gb drive.)
3. Connect new drive to pc & dump the backed up image to it w/ Xplorer360.
--
At this point your content is copied, only problem is that due to your hdd partition table, only the original HDD size is seen.
--
4. Use some software (fdisk is my app of choice) to edit partition 3 to encompass the rest of your space.
5. Enjoy.

This assumes you know how to write a partition table.
Also, make sure that the hdd software you use does not actually zero the data on the 3rd partition if you delete/recreate it. You want to use software that ONLY touches the partition table, not the rest of the disk.

Will be doing this tonight & will report back w/ confirmation that this works.
The benefits of this, is that you won't have to FTP or use an external USB drive to get your data back to the XBR-formatted drive. Also, if you have partition 2 w/ compatability files, it will still be intact.
Also, no hex editing is a plus. ph34r.gif

For those who don't run unix/linux, there are boot disks which have fdisk on them.
My favorite is SystemRescueCD, a Gentoo based LiveCD.

Cheers.  cool.gif

have restored
formated
copied all files needed but nothign in code9999 folder works
only place the xexloader shows up in is in memory section under unknown game

dont see what  dif the 320 hdd would make
as the 250 120 60 and 20 work fine

have asked in many threads still ahve yet to find a reason why the 320 doesnt seem to work right

Just discovered that I have this same issue.  Had a 320 gig modded to be a offical 250, then jtagged my xbox and thought I might as well get the extra gigs out of the hdd, so restored it to a WD 320 with my saved undo.bin, and have been jumping thru all the hops, only to discover xexmenu and all those others in that folder do not show up

Wouldn't it be easier to:

1. Put original HDD in your console and load up XeXMenu.
2. Ftp Hdd1 and HddX to your PC.
3. Replace original HDD with larger HDD, format drive in XBR, and run hdd_compat_partition_fixer_v1
4. Ftp contents of Hdd1 and HddX back to console on to larger HDD.
