250 / 120 Gb Upgrade ? Ban-able?
« on: November 06, 2009, 05:36:00 AM »

Hi all,

Just a quick question, my xbox is playing up, and im going to hopefully send it back as its still under warranty, anyway, when i get it back, i am hoping to have either a 120 ot 250GB hdd almost ready for it, but my question is;

If i use a 'homemade' HDD in my xbox, will i be banned from live? (from what ive read it seems no, but also seen mixed results?!?)

And also, will there be a potential ban in the future, as it will not be worth upgrading if thats the case because i wont be able to install anything on there?

I dont really see how they can detect that its a 'homemade' HDD, but then again, this is M$??

There's nothing at the moment going around about M$ banning people with hacked HDD's and I personally don't think there ever will be as it could possibly ban 360's with genuine HDD's.

It's not worth M$ hassle to chance a huge public backlash and do them more damage especially after the RROD fiasco.

Any difference in this if you had a homemade 120g hard drive on a console that got banned(but not banned for using a homemade hd I hope)? Or can you just format the hard drive on the new console and go from there?

yes you can use a hacked drive on a non-modded console. the consle just sees the HDD as a normal official HDD as the HDD.BIN file is present...................sudeki300

Sorry to thread jack but I don't want to open a new thread as I think this is the question I am looking for. I had a modded xbox and got banned for MW2 and bought a new one. I put my modded disc drive into the new xbox and now it doesn't read backed-up games. Do I have to have the xbox key code to make it compatible? Sorry Im like retarded as I didn't mod my xbox myself.

Well if the new Xbox is not modded then it won't play backups. The HDD has nothing to do with the backups.

People were worried about a ban but it had nothing to do with LIVE. MS was putting out a Dashboard update that would deactivate the Datel memory units. This also caused some stir because people were worried their home made 120GB drives would also be deactivated but the update came and passed with the Datel cards being deactivated and the hard drives unaffected.

So, for the time being, things are in the clear. I think even an MS rep said the update was specifically targeted at Datel cards and that unauthorized hard drives wouldn't be involved.
