Hot Swap With Aladdin Advance 64 ?
« on: October 25, 2004, 02:17:00 PM »

Hi,

i have a Aladdin Advance 64 and my BIOS Update was bad. So i want to "reflash" the modchip.
In some foren i red any threads that you could make hotswap a modchip.
Is it with a Aladdin Advance 64 possible, too and could anybody give me a few tips for doing this?

thanks for your help.

If you have your modchip pin-header mounted then it's pretty easy.  I tend to hotwire the Aladdin always-on (tie D0 on the xbox to ground, connect a hard-ground to both D0 and BT on the Aladdin) boot up, get evox to the select bios page, then pull off the Aladdin, prise out the chip, put in new chip, reinsert Aladdin, select bios, Y to flash, and it's good.

If it's hard-soldered on, it's trickier.  You then need to prise out the chip without upsetting the xbox.  Can be done, but it's definitely not something I enjoy doing.

I´ve soldering my Aladdin with the mainboard :-(

Could you give me a link or a good exactly step - by - step how i must hotswap my aladdin with a second modchip?

Or do you have a other idea to reflash the Aladdin quickly and easy?

I´ll say very thanks again.

hey DevoDave.

I'm also trying to set my Aladdin to always on.  I just don't fully understand where ground is.  Is it the metal circle that surrounds where the screws go in the motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

davefull: yes the silver around the screw is the ground.
