Trying To Flash Wd1200bevs 00vat0
« on: May 13, 2009, 03:40:00 AM »

Hello All!

I apologize if this has been answered before, but i have been researching Xbox-Scene and google for about 5 hours for a solution to my problem.  I don't have many posts because I am usually very good at finding solutions in other peoples posts.

I have tried on 2 different pc's onboard sata controllers (one required a edited hddhackr.com) and i tried a via vt6421 pci card in each.  Every time I get the same outcome.

I load dos and run hddhackr -f after a couple seconds it says some sata responded.  Text shows up comparing data from the Hddss.bin and whats currently on the 120gig WD.  I hit y to flash and it instantly says successful and for me to turn off the pc and wait 10 sec. . .

When i reboot to check the process just repeats and none of the info on the hdd is changed (Still reports as a WD1200BVS).  I have tried absolutely everything that i have come across to no avail (0-4 other hdds connected).  Others that have had the similar problems havnt been answered to my knowledge.

One thing i noticed is as soon as i hit yes or no to make a undo.bin (when it actually starts to flash) the hdd clicks off and stops spinning, I dont know if this is normal can some one confirm?

The HDD is brand new and i tested it, formated it, tried to open it in xplorer360, and many combinations of undoing the flash and redoing it and the data in the fw NEVER changes at all.

Im completely stumped and really frustrated,  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

SOLVED:

After running the command and changing hardware configuration after each attempt I was able to get it to work and I thought I would come back and share my results.

I started off by going into the bios and loading fail-safe settings, then turning off absolutely everything.  This for me included the following: Raid, Ide Controller, onboard lan, onboard audio and legacy support.  The only thing that was left on was the onboard sata.

I tried it with all these off booting from a usb flash drive and it was the same result every time, like it were stuck in a loop, with no change to the firmware on the hdd.

The configuration that worked for me was setting up a sata hdd with dos and requred files hooked to my onboard primary sata connector.  Connect the WD 120GB HD to the primary sata connector on my VT6421 pci sata card.  The only on screen change was that it took a couple seconds longer to recognize the BEVS and after running the command there was a half second delay between the Please wait. . . line and the part that tells you to reboot and wait 10 seconds.  I instantly knew it worked because it had never done that before, it was always instant.  Also before the hdd would stop spinning and this time it didn't.

In short what worked for me was running dos from another hdd and NOT USB.  If you are having similar issues with HDDHackr then try what I did.  Hope someone finds this information helpful.  Thank you TheSpecialist for a great program and tutorial!

Sorry that no one was able to answer you, but thank you for sharing your solution so hopefully someone else can be helped by your info.  It is frustrating to see someone come here, especially if they are new, and post a problem, and then tell us to forget about it and that he figured it out but not tell anyone why!

This board is pretty slow at times but at least it is a good place to search for info and you have helped in that capacity.

I'm experiencing a different problem when trying to flash my WD1200BEVS-00VAT0...for some reason hddhackr says "drive not supported, make sure it a SATA WD Scorpio BEVS !" - and it is, although it's being reported as a WD1200JB-75CRA0. Any ideas?

Well, I took the drive to work to try another PC, and it worked (Dell Vostro with onboard SATA, as opposed to a Dell with a VIA add-on card at home which didn't work).

Any chance it was finding another drive in your system that is in fact a WD1200JB-75CRA0 ?
