Bios Doesnt Load Hard Drive
« on: August 07, 2004, 03:53:00 AM »

- I've tested this with m7, x2 4983.67, and x2 4983.06

I have recently purchased a 200gb seagate barracuda hard drive. First, I tried formatting it with slayers evox. The cd loaded and i clicked format large hard drive but it didnt work. After that I was unable to load the slayers cd anymore. Next I tried to reformat the hard drive using linux on a pc. The hard drive did reformat but the slayers cd still wont load. (I have also tried loading the avalaunch cd, and evox cd but all give the same problem)

 - I know there is not a problem with my cd's because they load on my retail hard drive and seagate 80gb hard drive.

Now for the wierd part - If I have a cd in the cd drive and I try to boot up with the 200gb hard drive plugged in, it hangs at the bios as usuall. But, if I wait for about 1/2 an hour, the bios slowly fades into the boot-up screen of the install cd thats in the cd drive. I can see the screen but the controller doesnt work at all.

If anyone could please help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it

Thank-you

You have tried playing with the jumpers I assume, a lot of people I believe set it to cable select I always set new hard disks to master.

Format the drive and checkdisk it to make sure it's ok.

Still doesn't work try it in another xbox if you have access.

Still doesn't work, post make, model and serial number of drive so others can avoid it.

You could try preparing the HD the old way and reflashing the bios with no dvdcheck, unplug DVD drive and try booting then.

xboxhdm works well for new drives
altho its a linux boot disk for the pc, you will find it in the xbox folder
xbox/operating systems/linux/distributions/xboxhdm/xboxhdm_v1.8.zip
read the documentation packaged with it
