I don't have a usb flash drive that uses FAT32.  Does the CD method not work?

When I put the CD into my xbox it doesn't do anything.  It just says mixed media cd and it won't let me start it or anything.

hi Anglefan, i believed you followed exactly what M$ mentioned in their website right?  that is to :-

1.   On your computer, click the following link: Download console update.
2.   Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
3.   Unzip the file.
•   If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, you can just double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
•   If you are using an earlier version of Microsoft Windows, you will need a separate utility to unzip the file (for example, WinZip).
4.   Insert a blank, writeable CD or DVD into your computer.
5.   Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory on your CD or DVD, and choose to write (burn) the files to the disc.
6.   Once the files have been burned to disc, remove that disc from your computer and insert it into the disc drive on your Xbox 360 console.
7.   Restart your console.
8.   When your console restarts, the installation program for the console update will start automatically. When you are prompted to install the new console software, select Yes, update now.

please take note of para #6 and 7.  after you insert the burnt disc into the xbox 360 console, RESTART the console.  also, i hope you got the correct files burnt to the disc.

goodluck!

Well I think I have the most current update so I don't know if that will prevent me from getting this update.  For restarting the console I turned the console on and put the disc in.  After that I turned the console off then turned it back on.  Is there a different way that I have to reset it that I'm not doing right?

hi Anglefan, if you followed exactly that procedure, then your console may not have a compatibility issue. it may have other issues. sorry, i do not know of any at the moment. usually when you have the latest backwards compatibility installed to your console, it can play most xbox1 games even if your dvd-rom drive is modded. cheers!
