Installing A New Hdd Im My 360..
« on: May 07, 2008, 08:51:00 AM »

Hello.. I'v searched and read some forum topics but didnt get the information i needed, so hope you can help me.

It is my understanding that to swap my 20Gb with the WD 120Gb i need to split the SATA cable, solder stuff and the HDD wont even fit in the 360 HD cover?
Or is it just to extract the hddss.bin from my 20gb hdd, flash the 120gb hdd and put it back in the 360 HDD cover ? ..

Thanks for your time..

No, you dont have to do that cable thing, and you could put your hddss.bin on a 120 gig drive but it would only be used as a 20 gig drive then.  Read my post here and see if it helps:

Nice.. Thanks carwarr.. But i still got some questions.

1. Will the WD HDD fit in the 360 HDD case/cover?
2. Does the HDD swap have any effect on XBox Live?
3 Can i use any Xbox 120gb HDD du extract the hddss.bin and use it?

Good Questions.

Yes, the as long as it is a 2.5" sata drive it will fit in the original 360 HDD case.  But we have only been able to utilize the WD BEVS drives thanks to the great hddhackr program.

I don't know about using it on Live.  It should work and you could extract a 120 gig hddss.bin and use it to mod your other drive, but my thoughts are if you were to use it on two different 360 while signed on at the same time, MS could detect it and ban you.  Just a guess, and may not happen, but it is a possibility.

Good Luck.

Thanks..

Hmm, i wouldn't risk getting my box banned. If my box get banned i can still use my Live account on another box right ?

I think i go a friend who has a 120gigs and wont play Live. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You can't get banned for using a larger hard drive.

As thepawnage states, as long as you make another 120 gig WD BEVS drive by using a hddss.bin that you striped off of YOUR official 120 gig that you own, you should be safe.

As far as I know, no one has been banned for anything like that yet.  The problem is most people are not spending money to buy an official 120 gig and then create another one with that same hddss.bin.  They will get the hddss.bin from someone else and then you will end up with two hdd that are basically the same and that is where the possibility of detection "could" happen.  As long as it is just for yourself, you should be safe.

As we know, hacking the 360 always opens us up to MS finding a way of detecting what we do and then we could get banned so it is always a crap shoot.

i think we should have atleast on sticky on how to add a new hd to the 360...

but yes, copy sectors 7-22 (correct me if i an wrong)

and add your hdds.bin thing and run hddshack thing. this will flash your WD hard drive's frimwear.  (the hddshack has an auto undo button fti)

i think the lastes hddshack version is 0.92
