Hang in there cadman. your not alone.
I am experiencing the exact same symptoms as you are although I have not connected the 360 back to a tv to see if it has errors and I do not have the red led yet.
But the slax says it is switching to mode b and then a few lines later it says for me to be patient and that the drive/interface is slow to respond.
I have to say that this is a gateway 4300 and that I also have a sata harddrive connected but that being said, here is what I experience.
1 after the above, I reboot the pc (not the xbox) and I notice that in the bios, the hatachi is recognized.
I then find that every time I use the slax2 cd , I have to recover the mbr and boot from the windows install cd in order to continue (here i am thinking I am going to need to change to a windows install on an IDE interface so that the sata is only occupied by the hitachi drive).
2. Windows finally boots and the drive is recongized and given a drive letter.
3. I fire up the toolbox and it recognizes that a hitachi v79 is connected (cool I think, all going well....)
4. first time I tell it to read (either raw or classic), it says it can't and I should put a game or movie in and wait 20 seconds (ok, fine).
5. I do so and the x360 reads it and and then spits it out.
6. I have tried to hit the read button in tools at various times while the disk is in (both movie and game) and it never seems to be able to read the firmware (hmmmm.....)
OK, at this point I must speculate that it is a hardware issue on my PC side. and what leads me to believe this is that :
A. before using the slax2 cd, My bios and windows WILL NOT see the hitachi. But after slax they do.
B. for some reason, SLAX2 always corrupts the boot record of my harddrive so I am assuming that it (the hard drive) is getting in the way?
