Pcmcia Sata Bus Works Perect!
« Reply #30 on: January 07, 2008, 05:22:00 PM »

Pricemeista33,

Looks like the third laptop, worked like a charm.
The IBM with XP and the HP with XP did not work.
But the old junky Toshiba Protege 7020CT with attached docking station running windows 2000 worked.

I grounded the box to the laptop with wire and aligator clips. Once the 360 started blinking I rebooted the PC and then I also ejected the 360 drive via the windows right click properties on the 360 DVD icon before I started. I had put all the files on a USB memory stick with a few folders and created one folder called f:/c4eva for all the files. Ran the FLASH24S x xxxx. Waited 10mins done.

Laptop: Toshiba Protege 7020CT
Operating System: Windows 2000 Pro ver.5.0.2195 Service Pack 3 build 2195
DVD Drive: Hitachi 47dj (launch box)
Firmware Package: C4EVA_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_4_Stealth (I used the FLASH24S command.)
Tutorial: Pricemeista33 - post 1 of this thread.
PCMCIA SATA card: Best Connectivity 1.5Gb/s 2 ports - see post 1 for link (under the PC System Properties>Device Manager>SCSI and Raid controllers (driver installed is) Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATALink Controller
Method: SLAX CD - Frodo Edition ver: 5.1.7 (This caused the 360 power LED to blink rapidly, modeB.)

Thanks a bunch.

That's great "hardwork",  for we are standing by for your results in trying to flash that drive using that bus card on that lappy.  We are all standing by for more results for different types of cards working with other drives.  As long as you have the 6421 chipset you'll be fine.

Hardwork, please list your every move while flashing so we can pinpoint the problem.  Tell us what drive you're flashing, software(iPrep-dosflash-xtreme bootmaker, media(usb-floppy), card used via6421 or which ever you choose.

Try to be as specific as possible so we can all understand what you are saying clearly.  Check out textbook's tut and you will definitely find the answer inside of that publication.

Are you following the exact same procedures in post #1 of this thread?  Make sure that you have retrieved the "Open Command Window Here" power toy explained in the tut.  XP users need this software so when you right click on the folder on the desktop.   You get the option to "open a command window here" option.

Leave Slax alone for right now as I had problems with Slax myself.  All you need is the same things posted on my first post#1 of this thread.  Take another look at this and follow the tut carefully.  This is why I opted to use the resistor for the two wire trick.  It got me into mode B really fast and easy.  My drive showed up in windows XP also while at the desktop.  Slax just didn't cut it for me sorry dude.

I don't believe it would be a problem if you power the drive from another source.  I wouldn't use the console's power for the drive.  Use the blaster or connectivity kit to power up for you don't want to cause further damage.  Remember the 3rlod has to do with overheating so no, don't flash with standard power to the drive.

Can you provide the ebay link so I could search ebay.  Been looking for a pcmcia or cardbus esata card but all I've seen at ebay are the Silicon Image based cards.
