Pcmcia Sata Bus Works Perect!
« Reply #15 on: December 14, 2007, 06:13:00 AM »

So, just to confirm what we've got proof of so far

- Hitachi drives (at least 59dj) flash successfully when attached to a SIL3112 Chipset PCMCIA SATA card

That sum it up correctly? I'm going to look for a card with either the same chipset or the VIA chipset and try it on my BenQ drive hopefully by next week. If anyone else has already tried with a BenQ please drop a line in here.

Cheers,
Scott

Hmm, seems someone here http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=630806
managed to flash a BenQ drive using a VIA PCMCIA card. (Though he's having issues now... but he IS using Vista so... yeah...)

Will report my progress next week on another VIA / BenQ attemp under XP.

Cheers,
Scott

Okay, here's the question:  I have a MS28 drive and a laptop with Windows XP.  I can bet this specific pcmcia card for my laptop and follow all the steps towards flashing the drive.  But here's the problem: For MS28 drives, textbook explicitly states that you MUST use a VIA chipset inorder to perform the Bad Flash Recovery Method.  This method is essential to flashing your drive on MS28 drives, and I lack the knowledge/skills to perform the VCC method in its place.

Maybe textbook just never heard of this pcmcia card's brand, or maybe he just never tried it out.  It seems to work with the Hitachi, but the Bad Flash Recovery Method specifically stated to require VIA chipsets.

Should I still give this method a try? thanks in advance.

I just got my PCMCIA card (good price by the way) and I get this result. Which I found and read that a few others have gotten on regular PCI cards but with no real resolution. I am in mode B and the drive is detected in XP. I followed the notes from the first page of pricemeista33.

But I used a SLAX disc. Not the two wire trick.

I am going to try a different laptop next week. I'm sure it's pc related but I don't know what.
I have a hitachi 47.

Hey guys thanks for the support on trying this with your set up.  Yes textbook is right when he states that you can only perform this with VIA chipsets on the ms28.  I tried one of my 28's with this PC card chipset(SIL3112) and there was no luck at all.  Now my next experiment will definitely be involving a VIA chipset PCMCIA card to flash one of my 28's.  The silicone chipset doesn't support flashing 28's as of right now.  Maybe one of the Geniuses here in the Scene can render up something to make the SIL3112 COMPATIBLE.

Remember to list your entire setup when trying the flash from laptop method.

DVD drive
Software (iPrep, Xtreme Boot Maker, etc.)

only via chipsets can do bad flash recovery, does the pcmcia card have the exactly the same chipset that the pci card does?

would be handy via lappy

Anyone else get this pcmcia card to work yet? Please detail the drivers for the Sata card used.

I need to wait till next week for a different PC.
As for the drivers I see in XP win, I used the one from the Sata CD.

systems>device manager>pcmcia>Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATALink Controller

I can't get the TI driver to show up like post #14. "Texas Instruments PCIXX12 Cardbus Controller"
Is this TI driver required?
Please confirm.
Thank you.

I am more interested in expresscard solutions as pcmcia is outdated and should be obsolete by now.

note i said SHOULD. i got this laptop over a year ago with a built in expresscard slot and to this day i can probably count the number of cards available on my two hands.

rrg, if you can see your SATA card under device manager, there should be no problems with the PCMCIA controller. Also note that the brand or the model of your PCMCIA cardbus controller is irrelevant. What matters is the brand and model of the chipset in your SATA card.

Hey rrq you're making the same mistake I made in post #14.  There's a difference in the Card controller and the bus controller.  The Texas instrument driver is not to be considered.  Pay attention to the SiL3112 controller information.  This is what makes it possible for flashing the Hitachi 59 DVD Rom drive.  I'm waiting for others to try this card with other drives.  We still don't know if it will work with the Sammies and Ben Q......Philips as well.  C'mon people and post your findings so those out there can getter-done':)

Sorry for the delayed reply guys... still been trying to find a VIA card here in Japan.

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Port-CardBus-to-Seri...ksid=p1638.m118

http://cgi.ebay.com/PCMCIA-SATA-2PORTS-CAR...0QQcmdZViewItem

These auction looks promising for those in the US that want to try the Silicon chipset.. the first auction is the SIL3112 (like the one that's been tried) and the second one is the SIL3512 (don't know if there is much difference).

Will get back to you guys asap about the via one...

Hey Kudoz the first option is indeed the exact same card I used to flash a Hitachi 59.  The chipset is the SIL3112 for this card.
