Pcmcia Sata Bus Works Perect!
« on: November 24, 2007, 06:27:00 AM »

Hello all and welcome to the answer we've been waiting for.  I've finally went out and purchased this PCMCIA card for my laptop.  It's an off brand card named "Best Connectivity" located here:http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10407&cs_id=1040702&p_id=1449&seq=1&format=2

I took a chance and yes it works like a charm when following "textbook's" tutorial.

Laptop: Gateway MT6705
Operating System:  WinVista Premium 32bit updated
DVD Drive: Hitachi 59dj
Firmware:  C4EVA  Hitachi
Tutorial:  texbook -360 Mods.net
PCMCIA SATA card: Best Connectivity 1.5Gb/s 2 ports
Method: 2Wire trick (simplest)

NOTE:

Ensure that you type in the correct command line when inside the dos prompt.  Do not extract your F/W to a long directory for it will not be found by the system.  Extract all files to the c:/ without containing too many folders.  I would have only one folder with the files inside that folder only, located on the c:/ drive. If using the "C4EVA" FW, ensure that you type: FLASH24S X ####(drive letter numbers) into the command prompt after you have right clicked on the folder containing the FW (WinXP users must download and install the "Open Command Window Here" tool) in order to have the right click feature like Vista.

On page 96 of textbook's tutorial it will inform you to type in "FLASHIX X ####" where x is your 360 drive letter followed by any random 4 numbers (####).  Instead of typing this into the command prompt.  I had to type: FLASH24S FOLLOWED BY THE DRIVE LETTER AND NUMBERS.  If you look at the files inside of the C4EVA_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_4_Stealth folder.  You will notice a second folder named, "X-LG".  This folder does not have to be present for you must specify this folder in your command line if you desire to keep it.

I would just delete it and ensure the files are in the C4EVA_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_4_Stealth folder only.
Make sure that you shut down the laptop after your flash is a success then power off the 360.  If you don't do it in that order your drive will not come out of mode b right away.  You will have to power on the console again and unplug the sata cable from the drive (while power is on).  Power off again and plug the sata back before power on.  Now the drive should be out of Mode B.

Hopes this helps those in need as it has rescued me.

A special thankx to :  textbook, 360mods.net and xboxscene    You are appreciated!

How bizarrre!  I was just going to post this very question:

Can I use an expresscard adpated to link up to my BenQ DVD drive....?

I guess I can - although I'm in the UK and was thinking of purchasing this one:

http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopD...?ProductID=4108

Does anyone know for sure if this one will work or do you recommend another?

Cheers

Congrats! This is great news. Been waiting on this for a while. I just wish there was somewhere local I could purchase one instead of online. I don't suppose there would be any huge technical differences betweeen flashing a BenQ and your drive. So i'm assuming it would work just dandy. Thanks for being a "guinea pig"  So to speak....lol  beerchug.gif

Hey Giblet, check really good prior to getting that card you found.  I noticed the bus type is not that of the one card I've used. You must ensure that you get the correct card for your bus type.  It's a pleasure to help out as many people I can for I've had great help here in the forums.

milkman - you should be able to find either this card or one that bears the EXACT SAME SPECS.  Check around for some other cards that may have the same specs and it shouldn't be a problem.

Well TdoubleD038, I would at least bounce the specs of the card which I used to that of your esata 2 card.  I accepted in becoming the guinea pig for the card I purchased.  You must accept the same if you really want to know if that set up will work.  I would suggest that you give it a try for we know that the Hitachi59 and Sammy 943 will flash with a laptop.  You could be the culprit to pull this one off if you'd asked me.  I really believe that it would work.  Remember to check the pinned sections concerning beng Q flashing.

hmm i think ill go with your card to try it out (cheaper option of the 2)

as far as the benq im not for certain its benq (havent purchased the 360 yet)

but im assuming itll probably be benq since im purchasing an arcade version (already have the hdd from my old premium that died)

ill let you know how it goes once i get everything and give it a go

Thanks a lot Tdouble,
You really don't have anything to lose by getting that card.  I have faith and confidence in that card.  You can do it I just know it.

Any of you have tried to connect the sata cable directly to internal mobile sata port ?

I'm also interested by the pcmia>sata solution, but if it's possible to flash without this.... tongue.gif

bit of an update i received the card and was going to try it on my MS25 samsung from the dead 360

only to find out that my system bios wont let me boot to the usb if i have my harddrive connected lol (wont let me change the boot order only allows me to choose from a list which to boot from but my laptop's hdd and the usbdrive are both listed as an HDD and i cant change the order in which they are booted)

anyways rather than opening my laptop to unplug the hdd im going to try the iPrep bootable CD instead

123Flash, the pcmcia card works in a dos prompt box at the windows deksktop.  We are talking about flashing from a laptop right?  Ok You must install the necessary drivers prior to the card working after it has been detected by windows.  Do more homework before asking noob questions.  You should at least know what ver. DVD you have you know!

Pricemeista, your PCMCIA SATA controller must be showing up in device manager as 'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATALink Controller'.

As far as I know, only drives that can be flashed with a Silicon Image chipset are Hitachi 46, 47 and 59. Since those drives are also the only ones that can be flashed with SATA-to-USB adapters, isn't buying a PCMCIA adapter unnecessary?

NEGATIVE...my controller shows as "Texas Instruments PCIXX12 Cardbus Controller".  Before posting ASSumptions, you might want to do a little homework prior to sharpshooting anyone on the Scene.  It is very necessary to have a SATA CARD if you do not have any USB ports to work with.  I never mentioned anything about a Sata to USB adapter in my posts.  You must have made quite a mistake and got your people mixed up.  If one wishes to choose the pcmcia card over the usb adapter it is alright.  I just informed those of what I had accomplished without using a USB adapter.  Read my posts carefully!

If the Silicon Image chipset only works for the drives you've mentioned above.  That's all good for I have been asking those with all different types of drives to give my method a shot. It would be a great help to those who aren't as fortunate to have some info on flashing a variety of drives utilizing the method which I have.

Pricemeista, Texas Instruments is the brand of your PCMCIA bus controller, not the SATA controller on the PCMCIA card. My web inquiry came up with the result that PCMCIA SATA card you mentioned is indeed based on a Silicon Image chipset. Please confirm that.

Sorry if my previous post was a bit confusing. Perhaps I should have written more explicitly. What we're concerned here with is not the brand and/or model related to PCMCIA bus controller of your lappy (it's rather irrelevant), but the SATA controller chipset on your specific PCMCIA SATA card.
