Currupted Index

Hello, well basically i was loading a game save on to my 20 gig samsung hard drive. It worded fine, but when i plugged it into my 360 it said no profile found. So I looked around to see that everything that i had dl'd wasn't there. After I plugged my hard drive back into my comp I go to check Partition 3 and there was nothing in there, but when I check the memory size on the Xbox 360's memory settings it said I had about 7 gigs left *which it was b4 it was screwed up* So basically my question is How can i repair the index of the 360 hdd. Because i know that the files are there.

I'm running windows XP sp2
not using Xsata, got the hard drive hooked up to an external hdd adapter. When I have it plugged in its the same as a normal 360 hdd would be plugged in.

Would chkdsk work for this?

well the 360 hard drive is in its own filesystem format. did you backup your hard drive before you screwed with it? if not then i thin ktheres no way of fixing the corrupted data. your only option is to format the drive with the 360 to fix it. but if you didnt make any backup, stick a fork in ya cause yer done.

So why isnt it possible to repair the index? Or use a program to bypass the index and search for files on the drive?

because MS made it to only work in a 360 , so people couldnt edit and do what they wanted to the hard drives. to them you should only be using it on a 360.  when the xbox360 formats the hard drive it will "fix" the index by removing it. then start a fresh one. there is no program to bypass it either only programs to look at the files and dump or upload them. if they wanted it to be compatible with windows they would have made it that way. so unless you have a backup your SOL.

Ok good news. I was able to find my lost profile with easy Recovery Professional. THe hard part about this is none of the file names are the same, but the files them selves arnt screwed up. Ontrack easy recovery found my profile by puting in the first 16 hex charceters in the rly old profile i had. I got on xbl with it so it works I just  have to change the names of it because it dumps the files stuff like FIL7,but yeah you gota know what your lookn for. BTW the files were there the index is just too screwed up. I just gota find a few more and i should be good and reformat wink.gif.

All you need is the program Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional and you need to be expirenced with hex code. If your files were delted and ur memory says u got like the stock ammount after formating. then I dont know if this will work for you. If your not in that kind of predicament and Ur Index is just screwed up. Basicly ur files are gone but the Size used on the Hdd is the same b4 this happened then yeah this can help but you need a old copy of ur files to make comparisons with.

Also theres a few other programs you can use to salvage your pictures with , Recover My Files , and VirtualLab can find the files. I wouldnt recomend Virtuallab seeing as it costs alot of money.

PS. I can post a few screenies but they wont help much except for the pictures part.
