Backing Up Files From Hdd
« on: June 20, 2007, 02:32:00 PM »

Ok, i'm really unsure where to post this, here or the software forum. Anyway i hope i guessed right, sorry mods if i didn't.

Anyway....Ok so I case modded my 360 about a year ago and im bored of it. The plan is to ebay my current box and buy a new one to paint. Only thing is, im selling the hard drive with the 360 as its painted to match, and i dont wanna lose my saves, profiles, etc.

Im using Xplorer360. The "backup image" function doesn't work, its always just crashed my computer. Anyhow, i can still dump files. If i just dump the "content" folder and then insert that back into the new hard drive i get, will that save everything i want?

My original plan was to buy the new 360 first and swap HDDs but its my mums paypal that i'll be using. For some reason they cant get us verified, so all money made has to stay in the paypal account rather than transferring to the bank. So i need to sell my 360 before i can buy a new one, to use the paypal credit to pay for the new one... if that makes sense. So i need to find a way of transferring the files.

Another thing (slightly off topic but not worth a new thred)... At the moment i have a credit card linked to my live account. If i just went into "Settings > Memory" and deleted the profile, will this get rid of the credit card? I don't want the person who buys it going on a shopping spree on me. I have also done a factory reset on the console.

Cheers guys.

If making a backup image indeed doesn't work, then you can just dump everything, and create a hierarchial setup of the 360 HDD manually. Try getting the latest beta of Xplorer360, I have beta 6, I'm not sure if that's the latest, haven't used it in a while, but it's worth a quick check on your part.

For the credit card... there's no way of having it removed from the account, MS decided to not include that type of feature in Xbox Live for some odd reason. Just get everything backed up, one way or another, then format the HDD on the xbox 360, to get rid of everything, accounts, saves etc.

Good luck.
