Connect 360 Hdd To Pc
« on: April 08, 2007, 09:39:00 PM »

i recently got a 360 Premium and the Xenium connectivity kit as well, and i'm wondering, other than backing up data to the HDD, is there much point to connecting it? can you make custom skins? anything of that nature, or anything else? I know a lot of mods are done just because they can be done, is this one of those? thanks

So far it's only been helpful to get content off the hdd, like say if you've got a bunch of stuff from Marketplace, and to store on your PC or burn to a disc to save space. I haven't been able to write anything to the drive it could read, though.

So, for instance, if I "rent" a couple movies of Marketplace, I could feasibly transfer them to my PC? Are they playable? Or is it just an image of the drive? I ask because of IPTV coming in the future, I'm going to want to back up my shows like Sienfeld and Futurama.

There are several ways to connect a 360 HDD to PC.
Most commonly used method which is easy.

Another easy method

A hard method

The hardest method - Not recommended
In this method you have to remove the 360 HDD out of its case. And then you need the special SATA Power cable and connector cable. >.< I tried it too much work. Plus the 360 HDD screws eventually get scrapped off. So you wont be able to use the case anymore and its just too shabby.

What I am using and would recommend everyone to use is this:

Costs around $50USD from manufacturer.

Save yourself some time and enjoy.

Or you could just plug the hard drive directly into the PC for $0...

Assuming it supports SATA, of course.

jelle25,
PureThermite is right.  You CAN plug the actual harddrive (not the xbox360 enclosure) to a PC with SATA and SATA power connector and use the software.  Cost = $0

from what i understand, you might be able to dump your hard drive's contents with your pc, then restore the whole thing on your friend's Hard drive, but the xbox might have some kind of protection against that. and the xbox live arcade games? if you could just copy them from a friend, why would anybody pay for them? I'm pretty sure microsoft would not allow you to copy them.
